• To spend quality time with the residents and provide refreshments and snacks as required throughout the night.
• To assist in any cases of emergency or difficult situations, ensuring the safety of the residents are paramount throughout the night.
• Provide one-to-one personal care as required to residents throughout the night to include helping with dressing and undressing, washing, bathing and personal hygiene where necessary. To provide continence support during the night, two hourly checks throughout the night to all residents. To carry out two- or four-hour repositioning of residents where necessary. Ensure that all checks are recorded and documented.
• Assist in the serving of food and drinks to residents, and to assist and encourage residents in the intake of food and fluid as required. Preparation of light snacks and meals as required, by liaising with the kitchen staff, as necessary.
• Tea Trolleys needs to be completed and ready for 7am. All the juice and water jugs need to be labelled and completed before 7am. Hydration station needs to be filled and labelled before 7am.
• To answer and respond to the nurse call system within the home promptly. When responding, ensure that the situation is assessed, assistance is provided and if assistance is required ensure that this called for via the nurse call system.
• Observe the welfare of the resident’s ensuring privacy and dignity is always respected. Report any changes regarding resident conditions to the Senior Carer, Deputy Manager or Registered Manager, as necessary.
• Adhere to residents’ choice on awakening times and bedtimes.
• To maintain a safe and healthy environment within the home with due regard to appropriate food hygiene and health and safety regulations. To report all accidents or incidents to the Senior Carer, Deputy Manager or Registered Manager.
• To report any malfunctions or damage to equipment as soon as possible to the Senior Carer, Deputy Manager or Registered Manager.
• To carry out domestic tasks as required to include the collection of residents used clothing to laundry, making beds, emptying commodes and ensuring resident rooms, communal areas including toilets are always kept tidy and clean.
• Night staff are to sweep and wash the kitchen, dining and lounge floor on every shift. All the underneath of chairs and table needs to be cleaned in the dining area twice a week and to notify Senior when this has been completed.
• To read, write and update reports, records and charts as required.
• Ensure that the diary is read at the start of every shift, to include previous entries covering days off.
• To ensure a thorough handover is carried out with the Senior Carer coming onto shift, ensuring all residents/visitors are accounted for, environment is safe, precise and important information is documented and verbalised and that all security is checked and signed for. To complete the handover sheet ensuring all relevant information is documented.
• To assist with End-of-Life Care.
