Architectural Technologist / Technician

This is a full-time, permanent position, working Monday to Friday 7.30am – 4.30pm. Applications will only be considered online in the first instance.

Due to an increased workload and expanding international portfolio, we are looking for a confident and talented Architectural Technologist / Technician to work as part of a small team based in our Sunderland office, on our innovative cinema and bespoke architectural projects across the world.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is looking to become part of a hardworking, forward thinking and expanding business; and who can undertake responsibility for the delivery of projects with a main focus in the cinema sector but also across an expanding client base.
This is a permanent position with a competitive salary depending on qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities
The main purpose of the role is to ensure timely delivery of complete, cost effective, and innovative designs in the cinema industry with high quality architectural detailing and ensuring the quality of architectural information provided both internally and externally is of the highest standards.
The successful candidate will integrate closely with an established team and have a strong ability to manage the design of projects from concept to completion; demonstrate sound technical and administrative skills, and a profound knowledge of construction, health and safety.
You will have the ability to make decisions and attend face to face client meetings, so organisation, confidence and a professional demeanour is required at all times.
Daily duties will require you to:
1. Meet with other professionals and clients at an early stage to agree design parameters, interpret design briefs, sketches, models and be able to follow a design project from inception to completion.
2. Undertake cinema inspections and surveys, establish conditions and recommend remedial action.
3. Prepare estimates of materials and labour for quotation purposes and use throughout the construction phase.
4. Manage and report upon architectural requirements and provide continued support in project design and the management of pre and post contract activities (including dealing with Contractors).
5. Deal with site queries and co-ordinate with our in-house project management team throughout the entire life cycle of projects.
6. Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, working closely with architects, quantity surveyors, engineers, manufacturers and suppliers.
7. Maintain a close working relationship with our international technical team based in Toronto.
Desired Skills & Experience
The successful candidate will possess excellent knowledge and experience of design and the experience, skills and abilities to execute these processes within a cinema/leisure development context, including:
1. Innovative and adaptable to change with a professional and dedicated attitude.
2. Excellent construction knowledge and up to 5+ years industry experience with a strong technical background.
3. Excellent architectural knowledge, fully conversant with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD (latest version), Revit, SketchUp and other software.
4. Experience in planning, organising and prioritising their own workload.
5. Professionally qualified to CIAT or RIBA and will hold a first degree or equivalent related to design.
6. Fully conversant with UK Building Regulations and relevant Codes of Practice; knowledge of the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations.
7. Versed in procuring the materials required and producing detailed project related reports for senior level audiences.
8. Strong communication skills with an ability to communicate at all levels.
9. Ability to work and travel flexibly with strong organisational skills to manage workload.
10. Experience of leisure and retail sectors is desirable.
