Job overview
The Rheumatology department at the Princess Alexandra Hospital is devoted to providing modern rheumatology services to patients, emphasizing early diagnosis, aggressive treatment, and ongoing support. The workload mainly involves outpatient review and advice, with no designated inpatient rheumatology beds, though specialist advice is provided for inpatients upon request. Support from orthopaedic colleagues and radiology is excellent. Day case facilities are utilized for biological therapies, immunomodulatory treatments, and intravenous osteoporosis treatment. Biologics clinics are held weekly for screening, DAS assessment, and follow-up of patients on biological therapies. The post involves responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses and the department's proper functioning.
There are no out-of-hours or unsocial hours responsibilities, no general medical commitments, and no inpatient rheumatology responsibilities, though advice on other inpatients may be required as part of the on-call commitment.
Main duties of the job
* Provide comprehensive rheumatology services, including treatment and management duties for the department’s proper functioning.
* Conduct teaching, accreditation duties, and contribute to Continuing Medical Education and clinical governance initiatives.
* Operate within the contracted service levels and operating plans for Rheumatology.
* Collaborate with colleagues to maintain staff productivity and job satisfaction.
* Ensure compliance with all infection prevention and control policies, including annual training.
* Implement the Code of Practice within the department.
* Prepare for and undertake protective interventions based on evidence-based practice to ensure patient safety.
* Maintain general duty of care for health, safety, and well-being of staff, visitors, and patients, along with risk management and clinical governance responsibilities.
