About the role
This role focuses on ensuring the health, well-being, and safety of the equines at the Equine and Visitor Centres in Norfolk. You will verify that all security procedures are followed, and promptly address any breaches in security.
Key Responsibilities
Equine Care:
* Ensure the security and safety of all Redwings equines by carrying out routine security procedures.
* Accurately count all equines in their designated locations, verifying that this aligns with the equine location sheet for each farm.
* Ensure the precise, efficient, and timely feeding of equines requiring additional feed.
* Provide forage for groups or individual equines as needed.
* Recognize signs of ill health or discomfort in equines and report them accordingly, identifying unusual equine behaviour and taking appropriate action.
* Follow any instructions left by veterinary staff or Equine Centre Managers.
* Administer prescribed medication to equines as directed by the Vet Team or Equine Centre Managers.
* Be proficient in catching, holding, and leading equines.
* Respond to any equine emergencies that arise and assist vets with emergency treatments or callouts.
* Share driving responsibilities with team members.
* Operate tractors, paddock sweepers, and other implements – subject to training.
* Use all horse equipment correctly and effectively.
Communication and Teamwork:
* Understand the importance of clear and effective communication and keen observation skills.
* Liaise regularly with your line manager.
* Complete Night Logs throughout the shift and ensure all administrative sheets are filled out and placed in the Night Folder by the end of the shift.
* Demonstrate a thoughtful, proactive and collaborative approach to teamwork.
Maintenance of Night Shift Equipment:
* At the start of the shift, check all equipment (including torches, radios and mobile phones) and vehicles to ensure they are functioning properly, and log any administrative details or report any damages.
* At the end of the shift, ensure all equipment is properly stored and accounted for—radios, torches, and phones should be placed on charge, and vehicles and keys secured. Report any vehicle defects promptly.
* Ensure all vehicles used during the night are washed, refuelled and returned clean and tidy.

Essential criteria
* A desire to learn the highest standards of equine care.
* Ability to prioritise and make intelligent decisions.
* Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
* Keen observation skills with a high level of attention to detail.
* Sound IT skills.
* Outstanding team player.
* Flexible approach to tasks and workload.
* A passion for equine welfare and for Redwings’ values.
* A full, manual driving licence.
Desirable criteria
* Sound knowledge and experience in equine care
* Working for a similar organisation specialising in equine care.
* Formal qualifications in equine support.
