An exciting employment opportunity has arisen as part of a strategic transformation in cancer services. The assessment sister/charge nurse will work in the Weston Park Cancer Centre assessment service, including telephone triage and advice and directly admit patients to Weston Park. They will provide support to the phone triage nurses on a day-to-day basis and manage complex calls.
Main duties of the job
The assessment sister/charge nurse will undertake clinical assessments for cancer patients who attend Weston Park as non-elective admissions, order and carry out investigations and initiate treatments within defined competence and protocols in collaboration with the senior clinicians and multi-professional team.
They will provide site management, leadership and clinical support to the nursing team within Weston Park at night in conjunction with the hospital at night team and duty matron.

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 12 months due to the post being part of an organisational change within the Specialised Cancer Services. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and the management of organisational change.

Qualifications

* Registered Nurse (valid NMC)
Desirable
* Post registration study and Qualification eg oncology, symptom management
* To have completed the national PEAP programme for practice supervisors or equivalent teaching and assessing qualification for those with ENB998 or equivalent
Further training
Essential
* Core and relevant SACT competences
* Competent in IV drug administration, phlebotomy, cannulation, CVADs
Desirable
* Ability to record ECG
Experience

* Experience of caring for patients with cancer and those receiving cancer treatment
* Evidence of leadership
* Significant post registration experience
