Role Overview: Our Client are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Assistant Buyer to join their growing team. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of building materials and will assist in the procurement process, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to project requirements. This semi-remote role offers flexibility while allowing for collaboration with the team both on-site and virtually. Key Responsibilities: Engage in fast-paced material buying on a daily basis, responding to site requests efficiently. Identify appropriate suppliers based on material requirements and delivery timelines. Manage larger package purchasing, gathering prices, comparing against budgets, and presenting solutions for team approval. Review and process monthly invoices for materials using our cloud-based software. Develop and maintain relationships with key material suppliers, identifying areas for improvement and new suppliers as needed. Maintain an organised spreadsheet of suppliers and contact details for each area of work. Provide general support to surveyors relating to purchasing and cost gathering. Perform administrative duties related to the purchasing of goods as required. Conduct regular site visits to enhance knowledge of the building process. Answer incoming calls to the purchasing department and direct calls appropriately. Travel to construction sites (primarily in London) as needed, with expenses covered. Qualifications: Previous experience in purchasing or procurement, preferably in a builder’s merchant or related field. Strong knowledge of building materials and supply chains is essential. Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail. Strong communication and negotiation skills. Proficiency in relevant software tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, cloud software). A proactive attitude and willingness to learn. Working Hours: Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 5 PM. Semi-remote role, primarily working from home, with required site visits and occasional meetings in a day office in London (typically no more than once a week, with more frequent visits initially for training).
