What the Job Involves Collect recycling or refuse from kerbside and load into vehicles according to operational plans and procedures. Operate power mechanisms and assist the driver in operational activities to reduce Health & Safety risks. Support the driver to maneuver the vehicle safely and carry out reversing assistant duties. Inspect sacks and containers to ensure prohibited/contaminated waste is not collected. Clear any debris or spilt refuse immediately and report to the driver. Communicate with the driver regarding daily operational activities and resolve issues using initiative. Assist the driver in complying with disposal site rules at specified locations. Promote recycling by engaging directly with the public and support other crews as needed. Adhere to Divisional/Services policies and procedures, including Risk Management and Safe Systems of Work. Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills through relevant training. Develop working relationships with team members to contribute to high-quality service delivery. Uphold the authority’s core values and maintain customer care principles. Wear personal protective equipment as required for personal and crew safety. Be responsible for banksman aid handset & mobile device, reporting to the Refuse/Recycling Driver. May involve driving refuse collection vehicles on an ad hoc basis. Working hours are Monday to Thursday 06:00 - 14:00 and Friday 06:00 - 13:30.
