Health Determinants Research Collaboration - North Yorkshire
North Yorkshire Council has been successful in their application for £5 million to tackle inequalities and improve health outcomes across North Yorkshire through research. The funding has been awarded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) to create a pioneering Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) in North Yorkshire.
This collaboration will undertake ground-breaking work with the Universities of Hull and York to develop the research culture of the Council and build partnerships to conduct and use research on the health and wellbeing issues that matter to communities, and which reduce inequalities.
What is the job role?
We are appointing a Research Governance Officer to be part of the newly established HDRC NY team. The post holder will work, in collaboration with the Universities of Hull and York, to develop the research culture of the Council and build Council-University partnerships to conduct and use research on the health and wellbeing issues that matter to communities.
The post holder will be able to access specialist research training and academic resources (e.g., academic journals, methods training) provided by the University of Hull, to support them in their role.
The HDRC Research Governance Officer will work closely with the NYC Involvement and Governance Team, the NYC Data Governance Team and be the lead point of contact for all research governance activity. The post holder will play a key role in the HDRC NY team and ensure all research activity within the Council meets the required standards and is of good quality, safe, and ethically sound.
The postholder will be the lead point of contact for all research governance-related questions and queries and provide advice to staff to ensure compliance with internal and external processes. The role will involve developing, setting up, and managing research systems and processes Directorate/Council-wide e.g., Research Governance Framework, a research log for active and completed projects that NYC are or have been involved in.
The postholder will develop and maintain systems and information for analysis and evaluation and for reporting and presenting of research activity within NYC.

You will be:
1. Able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of research and/or governance and relevant legal and ethical requirements.
2. Able to develop systems and approaches to support organisational development around research governance.
3. An excellent communicator capable of building relationships across multi-disciplinary teams.
4. Able to demonstrate working effectively in teams and independently and working to deadlines.
5. Experienced in identifying and using a range of data types to produce reports and perform basic analysis.
6. Able to problem solve and develop solutions to meet the needs of different audiences.
7. Able to demonstrate relevant job experience for this role.
