Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – Support for Student with ASD and Mental Health Difficulties

We are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work with a highly capable student who has ASD and experiences severe mental health difficulties. This student is anxious but has a strong desire to engage in work and creative projects. The ideal candidate will offer support in talking through and regulating emotions when triggered, and help the student manage their emotions in a calm and structured way.
The student has a particular interest in Floristry, nature photography, and other creative projects. They also enjoy accessing the community, playing badminton, and going to the gym. The student does not exhibit challenging behaviours but will need support navigating their emotional responses, particularly when dealing with mental health difficulties.
Key Responsibilities :
* Provide 1:1 support in managing emotional regulation and talking through emotions when triggered
* Support the student in engaging with Floristry projects, nature photography, and other creative tasks
* Assist the student in participating in community activities, such as badminton and gym sessions
* Help the student with self-expression, especially when discussing topics of interest
* Foster an environment of emotional safety and provide support to manage anxiety
* Encourage independent work and personal development while ensuring a supportive presence
Essential Skills & Qualities :
* Understanding of ASD and the ability to support a student with mental health difficulties
* Ability to support the student with emotional regulation and anxiety management
* Strong communication skills and a non-judgmental approach
* Interest or experience in supporting creative and practical projects like Floristry and nature photography
* Patience and understanding, particularly when the student needs emotional support
* A positive and encouraging attitude towards community activities and physical activities like badminton and gym

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
