Job Purpose
The Site Chemist supports with the daily operations of the hazardous waste transfer facility, efficiently receiving, processing and dispatching incoming wastes. This role is paramount to ensure that the waste is assessed and handled in an approved manner ensuring Health, Safety and Environmental compliance are met whilst demonstrating continuous improvement in productivity.
The Site Chemist will conduct sample testing and analysis to identify and segregate waste deliveries, as well as maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment, maintaining lab and site cleanliness. They will work with departments all across the business including Operations, Compliance, Technical and Commercial inline with the groups Environmental & Quality ISO Management systems, whilst promoting the Slicker workplace values. Main tasks and responsibilities will include:
Offering a wide range of experience and responsibilities within a busy operational environment the key tasks will include, but will not be restricted to:
Analysis
* Sampling of vehicles and storage tanks.
* General quality analysis, including the testing of incoming/outgoing materials and the monitoring of daily operations using in-house test methods. Recording of results to enable easy retrieval and analysis of data when required. Escalation to management where results fall outside of company parameters.
* Raise Non-Conformance reports, implement corrective actions, and communicate issues to stakeholders.
* Assessment of new enquiries and provide technical knowledge to customers/company employees.
* Ensuring that samples are correctly identified, marked, stored and disposed of correctly.
* Routine in-house calibration and verification checks on equipment.
Operations
* Working with the Site Supervisor/ Manager to plan and undertake operational tasks on the site including the receipt, testing, off-loading, storage, treatment and recording of various wastes including oil and packaged wastes.
* Ensure that wastes are only stored in the correct areas and in accordance with site operational procedures and permitted activities.
* Assisting with the preparation of outputs from the site, dispatch loads for flatbed vehicles and vacuum tankers.
* Competently and safely operate forklift trucks to move waste from vehicles.
* To work with other colleagues at Kingsnorth and within the wider Slicker group to aid the smooth operation of the site.
* To manage and plan work for the site and staff in the absence of the site supervisor / manager.
Compliance
* Comply with applicable safety, environmental, quality, company procedures / policy, legislative and regulatory requirements to make sure that work is carried out safely and all hazardous substances are stored safely and are clearly labelled.
* Receive and document incoming loads according to site permit regulations.
* Inspect, test, classify, and segregate waste in compliance with ADR.
* Maintain accurate and timely documentation of traceable records for received, stored, and transferred waste in line with Quality Management Systems.
* Assist with internal and external Duty of Care audits and customer/stakeholder visits as required.
Housekeeping
* Carry out regular stock control and inventory of materials, both waste and consumables held on site and maintaining adequate stock levels of routine supplies.
* Maintaining a high level of housekeeping of the site and lab, including keeping work benches, floors, walls and equipment in a clean and tidy condition and free of clutter and unnecessary items.

Skills & key requirements
Essential Skills / Qualifications
* Qualified to degree or HNC level in Chemistry or an associated subject.
* Computer Literate – confident user of MS Office package.
* Strong numerical, written, and verbal presentation and communication skills.
* Strong analytical skills - measuring and monitoring data with attention to detail and the ability to question.
* Self-motivated, able to prioritise and work within a time critical processing environment.
* Full Driving License.
* Willingness to work in all weather conditions.
Desirable
* Previous experience working as a chemist in a hazardous waste management business or chemical/manufacturing industry or experience and knowledge of scientific principles that can be applied to waste management.
* FLT Counter Balance License.
* Staff Management Experience.

Hours of work
8.00am - 5.00pm, Monday to Friday, 45 hours per week, No weekends.
