A Vacancy at West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Responsible for ensuring that contracts are in place with the Pathology Provider and external parties to support the provision of pathology service on all Trust & CCG sites whilst evaluating and drafting proposed amendments to the current contracts as required.
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that the pathology provider delivers services that meet the requirements of HWE specialities. Whilst supporting the pathology provider, the post holder will explore potential options and develop a corporate identity that supports the business plan and meets the specific requirements of HWE pathology. The aim of the Pathology Business Unit (PBU) is to:
• Maximise the focus on pathology services;
• Maximise acceptability to the widest market;
• Maximise the opportunity to develop a unique value proposition and leadership position
The post holder is responsible for the management of the Pathology Services Agreement and Laboratory Service Agreement to supply HWE partners.
• Significant management experience
• Experience in leading contracting and performance management
• Experience working with legally binding and enforceable contracts.
• Extensive knowledge of financial reporting, analysis and budgetary management
• Highly developed theoretical and practical knowledge of two or more pathology services (Haematology, Clinical Biochemistry, Immunology, Molecular Pathology, Histopathology)
• Knowledge of Regulations and legislation relevant to Pathology and the requirements of national organisations involved with Pathology, including DOH, CPA, IBMS and Royal Colleges
• Knowledge of the impact of national NHS strategies on the future of Pathology Service delivery
• Experience working effectively in a multi-professional environment and leading multi-disciplinary groups.
• Proven experience of working effectively across organisational boundaries
• Formulate and implement long-term strategic plans for the effective development of Pathology in the Trust and beyond

This role is full-time (Monday – Friday, 09:00-17:00)
• The post holder will be required to build and maintain good working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders on all matters to do with the contracting of pathology services.
• Be a local expert on the contracting of pathology services; integrating systems and managing effective working relationships with the appropriate stakeholders.
• Develop key working relationships with the senior managers from the pathology providers and internal and external service users including clinicians from commissioners. Ensure optimum engagement securing appropriate buy in, support and understanding.
• Link with other contracting leads in the CCG and the CSUs to ensure that the commissioners’ interests are accounted for in the contract.
• Represent CCAs interests in the negotiation of contract amendments with the pathology supplier and ensure that appropriate contracts are put in place that meet customer and client needs
