The SEND Tribunals Officer - Grade J position is a pivotal role within the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) team, aimed at ensuring that children and young people with special educational needs receive the necessary support and services. The officer will be responsible for managing a caseload of tribunal appeals, effectively liaising with parents, schools, and local authorities to resolve issues related to educational provision. In this position, you will act as a key point of contact for families, providing guidance and support throughout the tribunal process. This role requires strong communication and negotiation skills, as you will engage with a variety of stakeholders to navigate complex legislation and ensure compliance with SEND regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a thorough understanding of SEND law and policies, be adept at analyzing evidence, and be capable of making fair and informed recommendations. Additionally, the officer will contribute to the development of policies and procedures to enhance the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the SEND service. Responsibilities
Manage a caseload of SEND tribunal appeals and ensure timely responses.
Provide clear guidance and support to families throughout the tribunal process.
Liaise effectively with schools, local authorities, and other stakeholders regarding cases.
Prepare documentation and present cases at tribunal hearings when necessary.
Conduct thorough analysis of case evidence and make objective recommendations.
Develop and implement policies and procedures to improve SEND services.
Monitor and report on the outcomes of tribunal appeals to inform service improvements.
Requirements
Proven experience working within education, social care, or legal settings related to SEND.
In-depth knowledge of SEND legislation and tribunal processes.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess and interpret complex information.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to engage with various stakeholders.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
