Are you passionate and dedicated about improving cancer and end of life care? An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Specialist Haemato-oncology and Palliative Care (HOPe) Occupational Therapist within the newly created Haematology, Oncology and Palliative Care AHP Team at HDFT.
This is a fixed term/secondment project band 6 post (0.8 WTE /30 hours) until 31/3/26 from start of appointment to develop and deliver a high-quality specialist haemato-oncology and palliative care therapy service to patients under the care of HDFT. The postholder will support patients predominantly in the community and outpatients setting.
Main duties of the job
* The post holders will work alongside the band 7 specialist occupational therapist who will lead the project within a multidisciplinary team consisting of Occupational therapist, Physiotherapist, therapy assistant, Dietetic and administrative support.
* To provide specialist and autonomous evidence-based HOP interventions, managing a complex caseload of outpatient and community patients to ensure optimal clinical outcomes.
Within Cancer, the service will focus on patients diagnosed with Cancer of unknown primary (CUP), Lung, Upper GI, primary Brain cancers, and those with haematological malignancy.
Within Specialist Palliative Care, the service will focus on patients with progressive life-limiting illness and complex needs within the defined referral criteria.
To provide a high standard of specialist therapy assessment and intervention for patients, with complex needs in the community, outpatients and specialist advice to therapy colleagues in hospital settings to:
* facilitate optimal level of function and prevent unnecessary hospital admissions,
* facilitate optimal level of function to enable consideration of anticancer treatment,
* facilitate preferred place of care,
* optimise symptom control,
* help to maximise quality of life and address individual needs.

* BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy
* Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy
* Minimum of 2 years clinical experience.
* Proven ability of successfully working with people and handling difficult and complex situations.
Desirable
* Previous experience working in cancer services or palliative care.
