Job Description
The Century Theatre is a small sized theatre venue (204 seats) in Coalville. The building was built in the 1950s as a touring theatre, bringing theatre to communities around Britain. It eventually found its permanent home at Snibston and is now at the heart of the country park and colliery site in Coalville. Century Theatre is a presenting house, offering a mix of live music and tribute, drama, comedy, family and variety performances, alongside regular hires of the venue by dance academies. Our annual pantomime is highly regarded in the local area.
We are seeking a General Manager for the theatre to manage the Century Theatre as a performing arts venue, ensuring its financial viability whilst developing a full programme of events and activities that attract a wide range of audiences.
The role will be responsible for the full range of activities at the theatre, including developing and delivering an engaging and financially sustainable artistic programme, negotiating contracts with artists, as required. You will be responsible for the theatre budget of c.£100k.
Working Hours: 28 hours per week
Job Requirements
* Be educated to degree level, or have equivalent experience.
* Have knowledge and experience of working in a theatre or arts environment.
* Have experience of organising performances, events and programmes within a theatre environment. Ideally you will have negotiated deals and contracts with suppliers, agents, acts and partners etc.
* Have knowledge and experience of operational management of theatres, including managing Health and Safety.
* Ideally you would have knowledge and experience of financial management and experience of identifying and developing new commercial opportunities to generate income and manage costs effectively.
* Have experience of recruiting, supporting, training and managing volunteers from a range of backgrounds.
You must also have an understanding of, and commitment to, equality, diversity and inclusion.
You will also manage the theatre duty manager and the front of house operations of the theatre, technicians and the technical elements of the site, and bar and casual staff, as well as our fantastic and loyal volunteers.
The nature of the work will involve the jobholder carrying out work outside of normal working hours to include weekends and Public/Bank Holidays.
