Place of Work/Group Company: Nijhuis Saur Industries UK & Ireland, Yorkshire Summary: The role involves providing technical front-line support to industrial process/clean water treatment operations across the UK, monitoring process performance day to day and over time, fault finding, providing site technical guidance with significant technical capabilities to both understand and implement process changes to maintain process performance. The Technical Development Specialist will provide NSI’s primary technical on-site presence for the operations teams and will be required to travel predominantly within a set region and occasionally around the UK. The Technical Development Specialist will also be required to lead and/or support water related projects and business development opportunities throughout the UK. The Technical Development Specialist is required to lead site specific feasibility studies and develop process improvement plans within the territories, ensuring that best practice is shared and received from the O&M performance teams within the region. The Technical Development Specialist will be supported in their role by the Site, Area and Territory Managers, and specialists from the rest of the Technical Development Team and other company services (such as Engineering Solutions, Service & Upgrades, iConsult department) when necessary. They will be an experienced Water Treatment/Chemical/Process Engineer who will use their theoretical and practical knowledge to drive treatment process efficiencies, investigate process performance issues & support the Operations teams with Technical/Process matters. Duties & Responsibilities: Demonstrate and promote safety leadership in all aspects of the Company’s business. Uphold company policies and procedures, legislative requirements and acts as a role model for the Company’s values and behaviours. In depth process knowledge for fault finding and determining impacts, risks and potential implications relating to process changes. Site specific process knowledge to enable technical decisions to be made. Day to day process performance monitoring and technical guidance to ensure NSI activity process performance and risk mitigation. In depth knowledge of site-specific process parameters, KPI’s, client requirements and regulatory consents to ensure compliance. Front-line support to industrial water treatment operations. Focus on operational costs on all sites and how they are influenced by the operation of the process. Ability to determine when particular work activities or projects will require support from the O&M performance teams to prevent impacting on the primary focus of day to day performance monitoring and site specific activities. Ability to work with O&M performance teams to share and receive site specific best practice for the benefit of other contracts. Analyse risk within the context of long term site service contract and manage to minimise. Attendance of customer review meetings to report on plant optimisation, progress, performance and risk. Identifying areas where the customer would benefit from additional support from NSI and providing that support either directly or indirectly. Identify development and new business opportunities on site and assist operations team in their implementation. Lead and develop water related business opportunities in the UK with the help of the NSI Business Development Team. Assist other business units (particularly the Laboratory and Technical Support) in developing specialist water treatment related services. Review all data related to customer site water treatment assets to trend and identify potential performance issues and solutions. Agree a structured approach to resolving the problems, showing the stages that are to be undertaken, the risks and success criteria for each stage and the time/costs involved. With the support of the operations team, assume responsibility for delivering the plan. Co-ordinate the operation of any pilot plants. Collect, organise, present and distribute data. Be the NSI Process representative in design reviews for the the installation of new assets and the interface into existing water treatment plants as well as managing customer process/production changes and to determine the risks and mitigation required for processes under NSI control. Where appropriate, using process experience and additional research, contribute to the debate on alternative technologies and modifications that will maximise the performance of the plants. Leading by example and delivering the business objectives in an open, inclusive and team driven style and embracing group values. Collaborate with wider NSI teams. Respond to emergencies to assist from a technical perspective. Required Skills/Qualifications: Degree and post-graduate qualification in relevant Engineering and/or water treatment discipline (or significant experience in relevant field). In depth understanding of industrial clean/process water treatment (membrane separation, ion exchange, EDI etc). At least 5 years of site-based water treatment experience. Appreciation of business strategy development and delivery. Ability to adapt communication to different stakeholders and levels of the internal and external organisations. Critical thinking skills, ability to lead change, ability to assert and influence. Full clean driving license. Qualifications in HSQE, leadership, project management, site management, incident investigation, auditing are beneficial (desirable).
