We are working closely alongside a Local Authority in Nottinghamshire to assist with the appointment of a Senior Appeals Officer, on a 3-month contract, likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.
Rate of Pay: £21.14 - £27.31 per hour
Responsibilities:
* Oversee and manage the statutory education, health and care plan, assessment process, provision and review for Pre 16 children and young people with SEND in their identified locality under the Education Act 1996, Children and Family Act 2014, SEN Code of Practice 2014 and Equality Act 2010
* Oversee and ensure that children, young people and families are fully included in the EHC assessment process from the start, ensuring information, advice and support is given to enable participation in discussions and decisions about their plan and provision.
* Oversee and manage the development of a partnership approach with the child or young person, their family, and associated professionals from education, health, social care and the third sector to ensure the accurate, co-ordinated and timely identification, assessment and review of the childs need.
* Responsible for the quality and accuracy of statutory SEND documents and be the authorised officer to sign these.
* Line manage, including the regular supervision, robust case supervision and appraisals of a Locality SEND team with direct supervision for SEND Caseworkers.
Qualifications & Knowledge:
* Educated to a level 6 or above qualification in a SEND, relevant related service area.
* Detailed knowledge and application of SEND legislation and legislative frameworks that governs childrens services. (Children and Families Act 2014, SEND Regulations 2015 and SEND Code of Practice 2014)
* Excellent knowledge and understanding of SEND education within the schools sector and its management across a range of educational settings and providers.
* In depth knowledge of the barriers facing children and young people with SEND and the challenge of inclusion
* Knowledge and experience of Local Authoritys graduated approach to SEND Support and funding systems
* Knowledge of schools organisation, management and systems to ensure credibility within schools.
Experience:
* 4 Years post-qualification experience in a relevant childrens service environment.
* Experience of understanding and managing complex SEND casework at a senior level.
* Experience of managing and directing a diverse group who are Hybrid based to ensure service user needs are met effectively and efficiently against agreed targets and timescales.
* Significant experience of working with families, children and young people with complex SEN needs.
* Experience and expertise in managing and resolving conflict, providing challenge and support to achieve good outcomes for children and young people.
* Experience of using a range of case management systems and application of IT programmes including Microsoft Office, Teams, Outlook, EXCEL etc
