A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Mental Health or Learning Disability nurse to join the 24hr healthcare team here at HMP Birmingham. We are an NHS service provider and work alongside a number of partnership agencies.
We are expanding services with focused pathways on Secondary mental health, Trauma, Personality Disorder, Dementia care, and Learning Disability & Autism.
We have a Band 5 post now available at our HMP Birmingham, which is an Adult Category B prison with a diverse range of nursing needs.
This brings a great opportunity to embrace change and embed culture. The role will be an experience like no other, requiring a diverse mixed nursing skills background and attracts nurses from a range of professional specialist areas.
Our service has defined structured Mental Health teams in operation. We have a nursing team that supports the assessment of prisoners within a 24hr healthcare environment, with a 15-bedded assessment service and a Community Mental Health Team that offers similar services to those experienced and replicated within the wider community.
We want to employ nurses who have a real understanding of the needs of the prisoner/offender population who can also bring innovation and change to our services. We see these services as a genuine specialism and are offering the opportunity to be part of it.
Main duties of the job
Under the supervision of the Deputy Ward Managers, Clinical Team Manager, and Service Manager, the post holder will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for those experiencing mental health and learning disability & neurodiversity. It will be a requirement of all staff to have an understanding of the broad principles of the recovery approach and to incorporate them to provide services that support people's recovery through being holistic and promoting social inclusion, self-management, personal autonomy, and independence.
To work in partnership with HMPPS prison staff that support the operation of the healthcare environment.
