Independent Prescriber Key Responsibilities To reduce the medicines related workload on doctors Increase safety and quality of prescribed medicines Provide support on medicines related issues to the whole practice team Be a point of contact for patients regarding medicines queries You should support the following clinical work: Clinical Medication Review Chronic Disease Management (for example, managing hypertension/Type 2 Diabetes/Asthma/COPD patients, polypharmacy review) Medicines reconciliation on transfer between care providers Care home/Frailty medication reviews You should also support the following practice development work: Focusing on QOF Domains, improving disease registers Prescribing Safety audits, Clinical audit, Local Enhanced Services support Lead on prescription management (systems and processes, ensuring monitoring is being done, support clerical staff) Actioning of MHRA safety alerts To develop and facilitate a good working relationship with community pharmacists and other local providers of healthcare. To plan and organise own workload, including audit and project work, and training sessions for members of the practice team, patients, and carers. To maintain registration as a pharmacist and comply with appropriate professional codes. As appropriate to the post, to maintain and develop professional competence and expertise, keep up to date with medical/therapeutic evidence and opinion, and local and national service, legislation and policy developments, agree objectives and a personal development plan and participate in the appraisal process. To attend local, regional and national meetings of relevance as agreed with the post holders line manager. To undertake any other duties commensurate with the post holders grade as agreed with the post holders line manager. Attend monthly QI audit meetings and carry out/co-ordinate the monthly QI audits themselves. Being responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Dispensary and managing its staff. Checking the drug tariff on a monthly basis for any price or category changes, as well as identifying new or discontinued drugs. Contacting drug company representatives when needed to address changes. Working alongside the designated partner to update and maintain the computerised Drug Directory. This includes adding new medications and monitoring patient prescription refills. Collaborating with pharmaceutical advisors from commissioning organisations. Organising prescriptions, reviewing endorsements, completing necessary forms, and submitting prescriptions monthly to the Prescription Pricing Authority (PPA). Also, compiling a list of vaccines and handling prescriptions sent back by the PPA. Completing assigned tasks, preparing reports (e.g., annual DSQS), providing support for projects, and participating in development or change initiatives as they arise. Processing of letters assigned to the dispensary team. To develop and drive forward profitability pathways. Ensure full compliance with dispensing law and regulations. Maintain good probity in all dispensing activities. Line Management responsibilities: Address any issues raised by fellow members of the Dispensing team. Organise schedules for dispensary staff and ensure there is adequate coverage at all times. Plan, lead, and document monthly meetings for the Dispensing Team. Develop, keep current, and ensure awareness of all Dispensary Standard Operating Procedures among team members. Promote and facilitate the personal growth of Dispensing team members. Maintain a professional demeanour and uphold high service standards. Keep the Practice Operations Manager informed about emerging matters, issues, or potential concerns. Conduct staff appraisals for the Dispensing team, guided by the Practice Operations Manager. Assist the Practice Operations Manager in addressing disciplinary matters involving dispensary staff. Be ready to take on shifts and assist with filling dossett boxes as needed.
