Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit is a unique day unit based within Stepping Hill Hospital that aims to streamline patient care in order to provide same day treatment, reducing the need for patients to be admitted. Patients are referred to MSDEC in various ways including through the Emergency Department, GP, Community services, and ambulance service.
MSDEC sees a variety of patients with medical conditions and often has a high turnover of patients, which requires the post holder to be confident in working in a high-pressure environment.
As a registered practitioner, you will work alongside both registered and unregistered staff, all of whom are competent, committed, and proud to deliver an excellent standard of care to our patients.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for delivering highly skilled nursing care to patients, using a person-centred approach. Effective communication skills should be used alongside a systemic approach when assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care given to patients to ensure a high standard.
The post holder is required to demonstrate empathy and compassion when engaging with patients and their families by recognizing and responding effectively to their individual needs. This also means working collaboratively with members of the multi-disciplinary team to provide effective treatment and care.
It is the responsibility of the post holder to maintain their NMC registration and work within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct at all times.
Job responsibilities
The post holder will assist in the admission and discharge processes for patients in line with local procedures.
They will provide support with effective patient admission pathways and effective discharge planning using their clinical skills to agree admissions and manage/report any impact on shifts/workload and staffing levels.
They will proactively engage with patients, relatives, and carers to seek their views, gain agreement, and keep them informed about their treatment and care.
Maintain registration, nursing competencies, and comply with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and related documents.
To be flexible to work within other areas or departments to meet the demands of the trust workforce model and changing service needs.

If successful, this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £41.90, which will be deducted from your first Trust salary. In addition, it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.
