An exciting opportunity for an Independent Reviewing Officer to join Stoke-on-Trent City Council’s Safeguarding Service has come up. This is a great opportunity to be part of a close-knit team.
What will your responsibilities be?
As an Independent Safeguarding and Reviewing Officer, you will be responsible for safeguarding and protecting children by identifying risks, developing protection plans, and collaborating with other agencies. Your role entails the planning, preparation, and chairing of child protection conferences and statutory reviews for Looked After children. You will also review care plans, ensure high standards in service delivery, advocate for children’s rights, and maintain detailed records of all actions taken. Your ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively will be essential in ensuring the safety and well-being of children.

Qualifications and Experiences:
You must possess a degree in Social Work, DIPSW, or equivalent, and be registered with Social Work England. You should have knowledge and experience of professional standards, the professional capabilities framework, and knowledge and skills statements across children and family services. Familiarity with coaching and mentoring models is essential. You need expert knowledge of local authority duties related to the IRO and Independent Chairing of conferences, as well as a sound understanding of child care legislation, including the IRO handbook. You must understand statutory policies and procedures for service users and be willing to undertake training for personal development. Significant post-qualification experience in social work within voluntary or statutory agencies is required, along with experience in child protection and working with children looked after by a local authority. You should have experience chairing or participating in child protection conferences and statutory reviews, managing sensitive information, analyzing risk, and formulating quality plans. Additionally, you need experience in challenging both within the organization and with partner agencies, and contributing to the development of policy and practice.
