Job Overview
The Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010 has provided an opportunity for Aneurin Bevan Health Board and its Local Authority partners of Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Newport, Monmouthshire, and Torfaen to develop new primary care-based mental health services for the population of Gwent.
PCMHSS was established in 2012 in line with Part 1 of The Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010 and outlines 5 key functions for PCMHSS, these include:
* comprehensive mental health assessments,
* access to interventions,
* supporting onward referral,
* provision of support and advice to professionals,
* provision of information and advice to individuals and carers.
PCMHSS supports people with a wide range of mental health needs. As such, we offer a range of interventions as part of a matched care offer. These include low-intensity intervention, group-based intervention, and generic counselling.
There will be opportunities for the post holder to be involved in helping to develop ongoing service improvement and be part of a highly motivated and enthusiastic team.
The Primary Care Mental Health Support Service within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is committed to meeting the changing demands of the population it serves and has received recognition for its innovation and vision.

Main duties of the job
The role of the PCMHSS Support Time and Recovery Worker (STaR) is to provide support to people with a range of mild to moderate mental health care needs and assist the multi-disciplinary team in providing innovative approaches to promote recovery and maintain community networks via face-to-face, video call, or telephone.
The post holder will have a reasonable understanding of a range of brief psychological therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, and computer-based CBT.
The post holder will have excellent communication skills, able to develop and maintain positive relationships with service users, primary care colleagues, and staff from the third sector.
There will be opportunities to undertake training and increase understanding. The post holder will be expected to take full advantage of all training and development opportunities.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Minimum Health or social care related NVQ 3 or a relevant foundation degree.
* Evidence of further professional development within the field of Mental Health.
Desirable criteria
* NVQ 3 or a relevant foundation degree plus evidence of further professional development within the field of Mental Health NVQ level 4 Certificate in Mental Health Level 1 or willingness to obtain qualification Certificate or Diploma in CBT Ability to obtain NVQ Level 4, plus theoretical and practical knowledge to diploma level equivalent, obtained through formal competency-based training, short courses, and experience.

* Relevant experience working at Band 3 or relevant experience of working paid or voluntary with people in the provision of social, mental, or similar care to people who require assistance in their everyday life. Supporting service users in therapeutic activities, observing and evaluating effects of activity on individuals. Recording of information to support the assessment of health, needs, and medical assistance. Assisting the development, formulation, and evaluation of patient care and activity programs. Supporting individuals in emotional or mental crisis. Planning and delivering programs of therapeutic activities i.e. group work or individual goal-oriented programs. Assisting and supporting service users to promote their well-being.

* Experience of supervising/managing people.
