NES Fircroft are working on behalf of an industry leading power cabling client, sourcing a Construction Manager. Supporting our client on their high profile project, the Construction Manager is responsible for the planning and execution of civil engineering and cable installation works as part of the overall project execution.
The role has been assessed as outside IR35, allowing Ltd Company working (pending a personal assessment). For the correct, competent, and suitable candidate, the role will be based on a 12-month renewable contract with a 4-week notice period.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
1. Responsible for the planning and execution of civil engineering and cable installation works.
2. Related work: route planning, linear duct installation, reinstatement, HDD trenchless crossings, HV cable Joint Bay construction.
3. Management of subcontractors and internal resources, monitoring against the Quality Inspection and Test Plan.
4. Ensure status reporting to the wider project team.
5. Maintain good communications and coordination with internal and external parties.
6. Ensure progress as per project programme; suggest and implement mitigations in case of schedule slippage.
7. Identify risks (including QHSE) and opportunities; conduct proactive work to mitigate identified risks or realize opportunities.
8. Ensure that work is performed according to Health & Safety and Environmental plans and regulations.
9. Responsible for installation/service, ensuring qualitative and quantitative performance within the required time, resource, and cost frames.
Competencies and Qualifications Required for the Position
1. Education: Preferably a degree or formal qualification in civil engineering/construction management or equivalent practical experience from a similar role.
2. Experience: Proven experience from turn-key land cable installation projects, including civils and cable installation scope. Understanding of marine cable installations at the landfalls is preferred.
3. Qualification: UK NVQ/SMSTS, CSCS card to suit role, Black or Gold. Temporary works experience/awareness.
4. Social Skills: High capacity to establish good relations with client and subcontractor representatives at all levels. Skill to manage a team.
5. Communication: Ability to write and review high-quality documentation such as method statements, risk assessments, and construction plans that are technically accurate.
6. Technical & Safety: Technical knowledge related to cable installation, civil engineering works, duct installation, and HDDs. Good knowledge of safety and quality works within turn-key installation execution projects.
