The role
The Trainee Fitter will assist the plant workshop fitters in conducting inspections, refurbishments, and maintenance of Substation Equipment from the Low Voltage (LV) and High Voltage (HV) Network. This includes working on Electrical Switchgear and Transformers of varying sizes. Additionally, the role involves supporting the Plant Workshop in building and assembling unit substations, as well as refurbishing and maintaining other equipment essential to the HV and LV Network, ensuring the continued and reliable service provided by the Plant Workshop.
You will
* Receive, unload, inspect and put away supplier deliveries, using an Overhead Gantry Crane and 8 tonne Forklift Truck, ensuring delivery paperwork is correct and passed to plant workshop admin team for processing.
* Load and offload Transformers at third-party storage facilities as required.
* Undertake ad hoc, cyclical, and annual stock checks within the workshop.
* Undergo training both in-house and attending external courses to learn about building and assembling Unit Substations (11KV) ranging from 500 to 1500 KVa to specific build requirements from our customers.
* Learn about standalone items including switchgear and Padmount transformers.
You have
* Basic experience of using hand tools.
* A high regard for safety, embedding yourself in our safety culture and adhering to guidelines. Be comfortable in challenging unsafe behaviours or attitudes.
* Experience of creating and reviewing risk assessments and method statements.
* The ability to work alone or with a diverse team of multi-disciplined engineers and managers.
* Highly organised and able to manage your time effectively.
