Corporate and Delivery Directorate works closely with the Home Office’s policy and operational commands to enable us together to deliver the department’s priorities. The directorate is comprised of different teams and professional functions, including Commercial, Finance, People, Portfolio and Project Delivery, Security, Estates and Information and Digital, Data and Technology.
As Fire Safety Management Business Partner (FSMBP), you’ll ensure compliance with fire legislation, manage risk assessments, and oversee evacuation procedures. By collaborating across departments to implement best practices and contribute to continuous improvement, you will have a tangible impact on people’s safety in a dynamic environment.
In terms of fire safety, the Home Office has a significant and complex portfolio of properties including high and medium risk premises. Our high-risk premises are over 18m high or 6 storeys, include overnight accommodation and/or cells and have areas that are public facing.
The FSMBP needs to be a visible advocate and subject matter expert at the site level within their regions, building strong relationships with key stakeholders, and having a robust understanding of the buildings' requirements and their specialized procedures. These are very much hands-on frontline roles within their designated geographical region.
Key Responsibilities
* Serve as a technical expert in fire safety, understanding complex legislation, fire reports, and challenging non-conformities, while promoting good practice to stakeholders at all levels.
* Visibly champion fire safety management across designated geographical regions, working in partnership with other FSMBPs and local safety teams to improve fire management for all colleagues.
* Provide advice and support on fire safety queries through the Fire Safety inbox or calls, co-ordinating Fire Risk Assessor visits and supporting Fire Risk Assessments (FRAs).
* Collaborate with Home Office Property Services (HOPS), Director Generals, Central Crisis Command and other relevant teams to ensure compliance with fire caps, occupancy surveys, building strategies, and accurate fire risk profiles.
* Monitor and review evacuation procedures for buildings in your region, managing rotas for safety support roles and ensuring recruitment and training of support roles, and ensuring colleagues remain competent through regular retraining.
* Manage site-level compliance and fire safety performance, including the drafting of communications for support role recruitment, managing rotas, and ensuring Fire Emergency Plans (FEP) are up-to-date and distributed.
* Lead fire drills, desktop testing of Business Continuity plans, and ensure that lessons learned from evacuations are implemented to meet Required Safe Egress Times (RSET).
* Provide monthly fire safety compliance reports, attend site health and safety meetings, assist with enforcement actions from inspections, and work across government to promote best practice and continuous improvement.
Working pattern
Due to the business requirements of this role, it is only available on a full-time basis. However, compressed hours are available .
Travel
Frequent overnight travel (approximately fortnightly) will be required within the geographical region which covers Birmingham, Solihull, Stoke, Stourbridge and Peterborough, and UK national for team meetings/events on a quarterly basis. Travel and subsistence costs will be reimbursed in line with standard Home Office policy.
