We are seeking a Product Development Engineer to join our skilled team within the Central Design and Engineering Department, located at our Head Office and primary manufacturing site in York.
Working as part of the Product Development Team, and across other multi-functional teams, your role will primarily have the responsibility for designing, developing, and validating new products, and continuously developing existing products, in accordance with an agreed Product Development programme and roadmap.

* Salary: £37,000 - £47,000 (Dependant on experience)

Role Responsibilities
1. To design new and develop existing product platforms and additional building elements in accordance with an agreed Product Development programme and roadmap.
2. To undertake all experimental or validated development work with both in-house key stakeholders, and in conjunction with, external organisations and independent approval bodies.
3. Working with Production Engineering, Logistics and Procurement, develop robust supply chains and effective production processes for the developed design solutions.
4. To monitor and influence product costs throughout the development process.
5. Provide analysis of the developed design solutions across a range of ‘valued’ criteria, e.g. cost, manufacturing efficiency, sustainability and Health & Safety.
6. Coordinate and execute production and operational trials, prototypes and experimental investigations to validate design concepts.
7. Prepare documentation such as calculations and test reports for internal and/or external validation of the design and performance.
8. Provide technical support across the Hire, Sales & European business units.
9. Maintain an effective level of knowledge of current technological developments inside and outside of the construction sector and identify and analyse opportunities for new technologies within the business.
10. Maintain an effective level of knowledge of all relevant current and imminent regulations, standards and codes of practice.
11. Ensure new and existing products comply with agreed legislative, regulatory, HSE and quality requirements.
We are looking for someone who:
1. Has a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering and/or design discipline.
2. Has proficiency in CAD software and other design tools. Preferably Autodesk Inventor.
3. Has effective development of products experience and ability to contribute to multiple concurrent projects.
4. Can execute prototyping, translating design concepts into physical prototypes for testing and validation.
5. Can demonstrate effective design practices in line with either regulations, standards, or specifications.
6. Has effective communication and collaboration skills, including non-technical audiences.
7. Can produce quality written reports, technical documentation, drawings and design calculations.
8. Can analyse and document quality, costs and design for manufacture throughout the design process.
