Position: Associate Practitioner, Blood Sciences, Band 4
Location: Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle
Contract: Fixed term for 12 months
Responsibilities:
1. Support biomedical scientists in the day-to-day activities of the laboratory, including performing laboratory tests according to protocol, interpreting routine results and acting accordingly within agreed protocols, and supervising and training support staff.
2. Provide a comprehensive Blood Sciences service to North Cumbria Hospitals and primary care.
3. Receive samples into the laboratory, ensuring compliance with minimum acceptance criteria, and deal with discrepancies where appropriate.
4. Prepare samples for analysis (e.g., specimen handling, centrifugation).
5. Perform daily analyser start-up procedures, including accurate pipetting.
6. Load and operate general laboratory equipment as required under supervision, following standard operating procedures.
