Theatre on the Steps, Bridgnorth is looking for a Dance Teacher and Choreographer to join our team.
Choreograph numbers for large annual productions and smaller showcases. Primary focus will be teaching in musical theatre style; proficiency in other styles is an advantage but not essential.
The role will include:
* Teaching at Youth Theatre Saturday mornings (10am-1pm) for approx 38 weeks per year, teaching large groups of children and young people 7-18 years old.
* Choreographing annual pantomime (primarily with youth theatre chorus with teaching on Saturdays, will also need to combine with adult company). Pantomime rehearses November-December and runs throughout January.
* Choreographing annual musical, rehearsals July-September and runs two weeks in October.
* Adult shows rehearse Mondays and/or Thursdays; choreographers schedule will be agreed in advance and they would not be required on all rehearsal dates.
Annual youth theatre programme includes:
* September-October - 20-25 minute Cabaret show as part of our Ghost Walk events.
* November-December - two pathways - Short Pantomime for younger members performing end of term in December for parents only. Chorus for Theatre on the Steps Company Pantomime.
* February-July - Working on skills and performance in July. This is usually a ‘junior’ version of a musical or a show written by the children.
Openness to team teaching with Singing teacher and Drama teacher will be required as well as working in collaboration with TotS production team. Must work with other teachers to effectively plan sessions and dancers in advance.
Responsibilities
* Conduct engaging and structured dance sessions for varying skill levels of members.
* Develop choreography that caters to the specific needs of each performance and performers.
* Provide constructive feedback to members to enhance their technique and performance.
* Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages participation.
* Organise and prepare performers for performances or showcases as required.
* Collaborate with other teachers and production team members.
Qualifications
* Experience as a Dance Teacher/instructor or in a similar role is preferred.
* Proficiency in musical theatre dance style.
* Strong communication skills with the ability to motivate and inspire students.
* A passion for teaching and helping others develop their dance skills.
* Ability to adapt teaching methods based on individual members' needs.
* Certification in dance or related field is an advantage but not essential.
Additional Info
* Ideal applicants would be professional, organised, and excited to support non-professional dancers to perform on stage.
* Must be available for evening and weekend work as agreed in advance.
* Pay: Is determined by experience; we expect this to be circa £2850 annual honorarium.
* All post holders are subject to appropriate vetting procedures and a satisfactory "Disclosure and Barring Service Enhanced check".
