We are looking to appoint a reliable, enthusiastic, competent and adaptable person to join the Alun School’s Science team. The Science Technician will be required to undertake a variety of duties mainly focussing on providing technical support to our Science department. Applicants should have a good standard of education (NVQ 3 or equivalent) and good numeracy, literacy and keyboard skills, including experience of using ICT packages. The successful Science Technician will be responsible for providing quality support to teachers.
Duties for the Science Technician will include:
• preparing equipment and chemicals for lessons
• ensuring apparatus and chemicals are maintained, stored and disposed of appropriately
• adhering to rigorous health and safety standards
• stock taking
• retrieving and putting away equipment.
Experience of working in a school or industry laboratory environment is essential.

As a Science Technician you will play a pivotal role in the day to day running of the Science Department and it is essential that the successful candidate is confident in providing technical assistance and support in a classroom/laboratory environment.
The Alun School, which is situated twelve miles from the historic city of Chester, is a co-educational comprehensive school with 240+ in each year group and a Sixth Form of almost 400 students. Our school offers an extremely supportive environment in which to work. Students are enthusiastic to learn, and behavioural issues are managed very successfully through our strong House system. We have a diverse programme of extra-curricular activities and relationships with parents are very good. All members of staff are very positive about their school and staff turnover is very low.
