Activate Sports Education - Apprentice Sports Coach
Role Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Apprentice Sports Coach to join our coaching team. This role is designed for individuals passionate about sports and eager to develop their coaching skills through practical experience and formal training. As an apprentice, you will work closely with experienced coaches to support the delivery of various sports programs and gain hands-on experience in coaching across multiple age groups and skill levels.
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in Coaching Sessions: Support the Head Coach and other senior coaches in planning and delivering structured sports coaching sessions tailored to different age groups and abilities.
* Youth Development: Help foster a positive and encouraging environment for young athletes, promoting skill development, teamwork, and a love for sports.
* Organise Training: Assist in setting up, managing, and cleaning equipment for training sessions and matches.
* Game Day Support: Help coordinate and oversee match days, ensuring players are prepared, equipment is in order, and games run smoothly.
* Provide Feedback: Observe players during practice and games, giving basic feedback under the supervision of senior coaches.
* Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure all safety guidelines and risk assessments are followed during coaching sessions and sports events.
* Administrative Support: Assist in tracking attendance, maintaining records, and other administrative tasks related to team management and player development.
* Community Engagement: Help deliver school programs, holiday camps, or community outreach projects that encourage youth participation in sports.
Training & Development:
* On-the-job Training: You will receive practical coaching experience under the guidance of qualified coaches. Supported to shadow coaches and develop practice in delivering sessions. Project opportunities to support individuals’ development in role and understanding of the industry.
* Passion for Sports: A keen interest in sports and a desire to inspire others to participate and develop their skills.
* Team Player: Ability to work collaboratively within a coaching team, showing respect for colleagues and players.
* Communication Skills: Strong verbal communication, especially with younger athletes, parents, and school representatives.
* Energy & Enthusiasm: High levels of energy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude, even in challenging situations.
* Punctual & Organised: Must be reliable and able to manage time effectively.
* Willingness to Learn: Open to feedback and eager to improve coaching knowledge and skills.
Qualifications & Experience:
* A passion for sports, with some experience playing or volunteering in sports.
* Willingness to undertake a formal coaching qualification (provided as part of the apprenticeship).
* Basic understanding of different sports rules and fundamentals.
* Experience working with children or in a coaching environment.
* Driving License for travel to schools within Herefordshire.
* First aid certification or willingness to obtain one.
Additional Requirements:
* DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service) is required for this role. You will be supported to apply upon hiring for role.
* Availability to work evenings and weekends, as coaching sessions and games may occur outside normal working hours.
* Clean Driving License.

Up to 30 hours per week including 6 hours per week attending sessions for the apprenticeship with Riverside Training.

£6.40ph (National Minimum Apprentice Wage)
