Governor Vacancy Voluntary, unpaid position We seeking to appoint a co-opted governor to join the Governing Committee at Leighswood School. Leighswood is a thriving primary school in the centre of Aldridge. Since 2019 we have been part of the Cadmus Family of Schools, a hard federation of 8 local Walsall schools that all work under one umbrella Board of Governors. We are looking for someone who is interested in supporting their local community and can bring a community perspective to the decisions we make and act as a critical friend in a strategic rather than operational role. Neither a background in education nor a direct link to the school are necessary. We would however be delighted to hear from anyone who has: • an interest in the performance of the school • an open and enquiring mind and the ability to look at issues objectively • the confidence to ask questions and join in debate • a willingness to listen and make informed judgements • the ability to work well with others • some time to spare to attended meetings and work with subject leaders • support and challenge school to drive improvement for pupils and staff The Governing Committee at Leighswood School has three main functions: • Setting strategic direction - championing our vision, values and ethos and setting priorities for school improvement • Holding to account – we are responsible for holding the Executive Headteacher and Senior Leaders to account for the quality of teaching and learning, levels of achievement, behaviours and safety. • Ensuring good financial governance – ensuring good financial management by setting and overseeing the budget, ensuring that resources are allocated to school priorities and needs Being a governor can be enjoyable, stimulating and rewarding. All governors must complete safeguarding checks and be over 18 years old. We are particularly interested in applications from people with experience within Human Resources. Our governors come from a range of different backgrounds, skills and experience. If you are interested, please email a brief description about yourself and why you would like to join our governing body to our Clerk to Governors, Hayley Marsh by Monday 28th April 2025. Her email address is Hayley.Marshwalsall.gov.uk. Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant will be required to undertake all relevant safeguarding checks and an enhanced DBS check.
