The Vacancy
We're looking for an experienced HSE Advisor to join our team, in a newly created position.
This role will involve you being seconded to a major project within a new development cell. Although you will report into the MTC H&S Manager, most days you will be with the cell team, supporting them with their Health, Safety and Environmental arrangements.
Main Responsibilities:
1. To provide accurate and timely Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) advice or information to colleagues in working in a new development cell, at all levels.
2. To support the auditing of the cell against HSE requirements and support management in developing corrective action plans to address non-conformities.
3. To identify and cost the requirements for Health and Safety training across the cell in support of the aims of this role.
4. Accurate and useful analysis of trends, patterns and emergent risks, to inform the HS&E Manager and the cells Senior Management of the effectiveness of our control measures.
5. To partner with MTC Cell team in implementing, maintaining and improving its HSE arrangements.
6. To help build and deliver the framework necessary to manage HSE as effectively as possible.
7. To support management in investigating HSE matters, ensuring all learning is identified, recorded and implemented.
8. To support the auditing of the development cell against HSE requirements and support management in developing corrective action plans to address non-conformities.
9. To work with the core HSE Team to develop and deliver corporate initiatives that address the internal and external Health and Safety risk landscape.
10. To work in conjunction with HR and the MTC's nominated Occupational Health Provider to deliver an effective Occupational Health (OH) Programme including effective case management; follow-up screening, phased returns to work etc.
11. Provide helpful and compliant advice to local managers on HSE matters or working arrangements.
12. Support the management of waste, including advising on safe storage methods, record retention and consents / permit monitoring.
13. To ensure 'tight lines' on adjacent topics e.g. company-wide initiatives and programmes such as wellbeing.
14. To work with the Cell's Health Physics Team to provide an all-round service to the project.
Person Specification
Essential Skills/Qualifications/Experience
1. You will have a broad understanding of UK legislation relevant to Health and Safety being proficient in the interpretation and application of it within a Research & Technology Organization.
2. Therefore NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) is required as a minimum, and you will be working towards a H&S Chartership such as CMIOSH via the IOSH Blueprint.
3. You will have a working understanding of GDPR.
4. You will be developing your expertise in HSE risk management in various contexts across the full scale of complexity.
5. You will have a practical grasp of the tools required to effectively determine the root causes of Health and Safety accidents or incidents; industrial diseases and psychosocial illnesses.
6. You will have an awareness of Health Physics monitoring and operations.
7. Able to fulfil requirements for occasional UK-wide travel e.g. to customer or supplier sites.
