As matron within the UEC triumvirate you are jointly responsible alongside the clinical lead and Clinical Service Manager / Operational Service Manager for the provision of safe, quality, effective and efficient services within your area of responsibility reporting to the lead Nurse for the CBU. As matron within UEC you will work within the specialty leadership team, accountable for providing compassionate inclusive leadership and management, promoting high standards of clinical care, patient safety and experience, prevention and control of infections, auditing clinical areas whilst also leading on workforce management, finance and budgeting, education and development, patient flow, performance management, digital technology and research. The Matron will provide strong clinical leadership, be highly visible within the team and to the patients, carers and staff, they will have a particular responsibility to support and lead safety and quality through collaborative working to provide clinical effectiveness, lead Clinical Governance, embed learning from incidences and support Service Improvement and transformation, modernising patient services whilst ensuring the active involvement of patients and carers in the way services are developed, delivered and evaluated. In undertaking the duties for this post the post holder must comply with the NMC – ‘The Code’, whilst also providing a culture of caring and continuous improvement through clear standards of behaviour in line with ULHT trust values and behaviours and ensure there is zero tolerance for poor care. The matron will maintain clear lines of accountability for quality of care, providing assurance at every point where patient care takes place.
