Job Description:
The Maintenance Helper plays a vital role in supporting the maintenance team by providing assistance with various tasks related to the upkeep and operation of facilities, equipment, and machinery. This position involves performing routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections under the guidance and direction of experienced maintenance personnel. The Maintenance Helper must exhibit a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to follow instructions to ensure the efficient functioning of the organization's physical assets.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist maintenance technicians and mechanics in performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks.
2. Carry out basic repairs and troubleshooting on machinery, equipment, and systems, as directed.
3. Perform routine inspections of facilities, identifying and reporting any maintenance issues or safety hazards.
4. Help with the setup and organization of maintenance tools, materials, and inventory.
5. Support the maintenance team in conducting preventative maintenance activities to minimize equipment breakdowns and downtime.
6. Assist in cleaning and maintaining work areas, tools, and equipment to ensure a safe and organized work environment.
7. Handle tasks related to painting, cleaning, and minor carpentry as needed.
8. Operate and maintain hand and power tools, ensuring they are in proper working condition.
9. Assist in monitoring and documenting equipment performance and maintenance activities in logbooks or computer systems.
10. Assist in handling parts and supplies inventory, including receiving, unpacking, and organizing stock.
11. Comply with safety regulations and guidelines at all times to promote a safe work environment.
12. Learn and apply standard operating procedures and best practices for maintenance tasks.
13. Participate in training programs and workshops to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
14. Collaborate with team members and communicate effectively to ensure smooth workflow and task completion.
15. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the maintenance supervisor or manager.
Qualifications and Requirements:
1. High school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
2. Prior experience in a maintenance or construction environment is a plus but not mandatory.
3. Basic understanding of hand and power tools, along with the willingness to learn and grow technical skills.
4. Physical ability to perform manual labor, lift heavy objects, and work in varying weather conditions if required.
5. Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions and procedures accurately.
6. Good communication skills to work effectively with the maintenance team and other departments.
7. Safety-conscious attitude with an understanding of safety guidelines and protocols.
8. Ability to work independently and in a team environment as needed.
