Group Financial Accountant
Location: Northants | Salary: £50K to £54K
The Role
Our client, a highly successful, internationally owned SME engaged in warehousing, distribution, and assembly of products sold to high street retailers in the UK and overseas, is seeking a qualified or experienced accountant (QBE). Reporting to the CFO based overseas, the successful candidate will oversee all aspects of accounting, financial, and company secretarial matters. Supervising a small team, you will play a key role in financial control, business monitoring, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and liaising with banks and auditors. You will also participate fully in Board meetings.
The role involves both financial and management accounting, requiring practical experience in both areas.
Key Requirements
* Focus on maintaining ledger accuracy and interpreting data into meaningful reports for management.
* Proficiency in Excel, including formulae, functions, and pivot tables.
* Understanding of Sage, particularly Sage X3, is desirable.
* Commercial awareness and self-motivation are essential.
* This is a hands-on role requiring the ability to step back from detail to add value.
* Ability to manage staff, delegate tasks, and develop relationships across departments and levels within the business.
Main Responsibilities
* Produce monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary, for the Board.
* Prepare monthly cash forecasts and provide weekly updates.
* Prepare year-end accounts and working papers for auditors.
* Analyze stock costs, investigate variances, and maintain accurate stock costing.
* Reconcile monthly results with profit expectations based on costings.
* Reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly.
* Maintain nominal ledger schedules for the year-end audit.
* Supervise maintenance of sterling and currency cash books and reconciliations.
* Manage supplier payments.
* Supervise sales ledger/credit control, including overdue payments reviews and covering duties during absences.
* Oversee weekly, monthly, and pension payroll preparations, including PAYE and NI reconciliations and annual returns.
* Reconcile VAT accounts monthly, resolve queries, and submit quarterly VAT returns online.
* Negotiate renewals for health insurance, company insurance, energy contracts, and life assurance.
Salary & Benefits
* £50,000 to £54,000
* Partially hybrid (1-2 days remote per week)
* Flexitime
* 37 hours/week (Monday-Thursday 8 hours, Friday 4 hours), with core hours from 9:30 am to 4 pm (Mon-Thu) and 9:30 am to 1 pm (Fri)
* Holiday entitlement: 23 days (rising to 27 with service) plus bank holidays
