We are seeking a highly creative Assistant Childrenswear Print Designer to join our talented design team. In this role, you will be supporting the print designers to conceptualise and design innovative, market-leading prints that reflect the George brand while meeting the unique needs and preferences of our young customers. You will collaborate closely with the print designers, product development, and buying teams to bring seasonal collections to life, from initial concept to finished product.
Responsibilities:
1. Print Design Development: Support the senior design team in developing print concepts and designs for the childrenswear collections. Assist in creating hand-drawn and digital repeat patterns and placements for garments, working across multiple product categories.
2. Trend Analysis and Research: Stay ahead of childrenswear and fashion trends, conducting thorough market research to ensure our prints are fresh, on-trend, and commercially viable. Contribute to seasonal print direction reports, presenting to the design team and stakeholders.
3. Collaboration: Work closely with the print team, the garment design team, product developers, and buyers to ensure prints are aligned with the overall collection strategy and the final product vision of kidswear design.
4. Technical Execution: Prepare high-quality print artwork, ensuring all designs are ready for production. Have an awareness of how to prepare detailed specifications, colorways, and repeat patterns.
5. Innovation and Creativity: Continuously push creative boundaries and explore new techniques, fabrications, and styles to elevate the George childrenswear range.
6. Quality Control: Have an awareness of the quality of prints throughout the production process, ensuring they meet the high standards expected by the brand.
7. Brand Alignment: Ensure all designs align with George’s brand identity and customer expectations, maintaining consistency across all products and seasons.
8. Administrative Support: Help manage and organise print files, ensuring that designs are documented correctly. Provide general support in organising print design meetings, presentations, and sample approvals.
Experience: Minimum of 1 years’ experience in a childrenswear print design role, preferably within a retail or fashion brand. Proven track record of creating successful print collections for childrenswear.
Skills: Strong portfolio showcasing a diverse range of childrenswear prints and design work. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator and Photoshop. Awareness of technical processes, print techniques, and fabrications in the fashion industry. An understanding of print production, colorways, and pattern repeat. Strong sense of creativity, attention to detail, and ability to translate trends into commercially viable designs.
Education: A degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, or a related field is highly desirable.
Personal Attributes: Passion for childrenswear design and a keen interest in youth culture and trends. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work well within a team and liaise with multiple departments. Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Additional Requirements: Passion to learn and self-development. A curious mindset.
