We have a great opportunity to join our dietetic team at Ashford and St Peter's Hospital. We have a 1.0wte (37.5hrs per week) B7 Specialist Community/Home Enteral Nutrition Dietitian vacancy for a 12-month fixed-term period to cover maternity leave. We are looking for an enthusiastic and confident Dietitian who can work both autonomously and as part of our Community Dietetic team based at Ashford and St Peters Hospital. We offer support to a range of patients in care homes and the community requiring nutrition support advice, enteral feeding, and those with complex needs who are unable to attend outpatient clinics. The community team meets face to face regularly to support communication, caseload management, team building and staff well-being.
The team members work closely with SLT colleagues, other health care professionals, palliative care teams, carers and patients and family members to ensure that patients are receiving optimum levels of appropriate nutrition and hydration, provided in a safe and supported environment.
Main duties of the job
As a practitioner with a high degree of autonomy you will take responsibility for planning and delivering your own caseload, acting as a source of expertise on dietetic/nutritional management to patients, carers, GPs, consultants as well as other health care professionals in both hospital and community settings. The Community Dietetic Team form part of the Ashford and St Peter's Dietetic Department to provide nutrition and dietetic services to CSH Surrey Community Hospitals' in-patients, care home and community-based patients in need of dietetic advice and review. This includes establishing and monitoring patients on enteral feeds in their own homes.
Prospective candidates should be efficient, enthusiastic and confident to work autonomously within a supportive team and their sphere of competence. They should have excellent communication skills, as the job will involve liaising with social care, clinical and community teams as well as patients and their carers.
You will need to be flexible in your approach to work. Experience in a range of clinical areas of dietetics as well as excellent organisational and prioritisation skills are essential to this role. The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate excellent team working skills. The post holder must have a valid UK licence and access to a car.
Job responsibilities
* To take responsibility for the provision of dietetic services, including appropriate dietary counselling, lifestyle advice and nutrition education to clients, carers, families and health care professionals in their own homes, Nursing Homes, Residential Homes and Locality hubs within NW Surrey.
* To act as the lead specialist dietitian on nutritional management of patients on Home Enteral Nutrition, their carers as well as other hospital and community health care professionals.
* To support the development and delivery of dietetic educational programmes on nutritional care for care home staff, GPs, other health care professionals working across NWS.
* To lead on development of dietary protocols and guidelines for the service and contribute to the policies for the team as a whole.
* Line management of junior staff members and support the community team function.
* To take an active role within the general functioning of the Dietetic Department, including contributing to student training.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* 4 year degree in Dietetics (or equivalent qualification)
* HCPC registration
* Extensive post graduate training to Masters level or equivalent experience in practice at masters level in a subject relevant to at least of the core conditions (diabetes, frailty, obesity or functional bowel disorder)
* Student supervisory skills course
* Membership of the British Dietetic Association
* Teaching on degree (or higher level) / professional course
Experience
* Significant experience in a range of clinical dietetic areas, including experience in managing patients in a specialist area
* Previous experience at a senior level in community setting within the NHS environment
* Experience of multidisciplinary team working and with partner organisations
* Experience of contributing to and service delivery/evolving evidence led practice and delivery in a changing environment
* Experience of conducting audits and/or research
* Significant experience in home enteral feed management and with co morbidities such as diabetes, progressive neurological conditions and dementia
* Experience working with a wide range of stakeholders
Knowledge
* Understanding of clinical governance
* Evidence of continuing professional development e.g. advanced diploma in dietetic practice or equivalent short courses
* Sound clinical knowledge
