Summary of Duties: The role requires you to undertakewelding and fabrication tasksto support operations and the maintenance department. As aWelder/Fabricatorat S Norton you will work on mobile plant such as material handling cranes and wheel loading shovels and their attachments, heavy static plantsuch as shears, balers, shredders, conveyor systems, metal sorting equipment, mobile plant and other relevant equipment used within themetal recycling industry, plus other fabrication as required Key Responsibilities: To carry out planned and breakdown maintenance on a variety of plant andequipment. Fabricating and welding. MIG and Stick (MMA) welding. Checking work and inspecting work. Ability to work from technical drawings. Key Competencies: Must be thoroughly familiar with welding equipment for Mig and Stick welding along with cutting and burning, torches, torch tips, filler rods, flux, hoses, valves, and gas cylinders. Excellent time management and organisational skills. The ability to work under pressure using on own initiative; managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines. The ability to work flexibly. Clear effective communicator. Essential skills: Full driving license. Minimum NVQ 2 or equivalent welding qualification. Proven track record of working in a comparable role. Solid understanding of MIG/Stick welding equipment and process. Solid understanding of Oxy Propane/Acetylene cutting and burning equipment and process. Use of plasma cutting equipment. Familiar with a variety of welder concepts, practices, and procedures. Familiar with workshop equipment, such as pillar drills, grinders, bandsaws, steelworker etc. The ability to weld in all positions whilst maintaining high quality and standards. IT Literate to be able to use a tablet and smart phone for work purposes. Desirable Skills: Previous coded welding would be advantageous. Experience working on heavy static plant and mobile plant. Experience with maintenance tasks. Welding up to 50mm thickness. NDE (Dye Pen) testing. Line boring experience. Able to read and interpret schematics and PIDS, welding process specifications and welding symbols and/or other printed instructional material in the welding of products or parts.
