We now have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Orthotist to join our growing team serving the vibrant East Surrey community through our partnership with First Community Health.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior or aspiring senior Orthotist looking to step up into a more autonomous and varied clinical role. You will be the lead Orthotist supporting services across East Surrey, working with a diverse caseload that includes general adults, paediatrics, and high-risk diabetic foot patients. This mix of specialties makes for a clinically rich and rewarding role.
You will be responsible for assessing, prescribing, and delivering orthotic care across community clinics and multidisciplinary settings, collaborating closely with referrers and other healthcare professionals. The role offers significant autonomy, with opportunities to develop both clinical practice and local services.
Main duties of the job
* Independent patient assessment and treatment planning across a broad range of conditions
* Managing complex high-risk diabetic foot cases as part of an MDT
* Working with children and adults, supporting MSK, neuromuscular, and developmental conditions
* Contributing to service development and best practice initiatives
* Providing mentorship and clinical leadership within the local service

Job Responsibilities
Job Purpose
To provide high quality orthotic care, demonstrating a wide range of knowledge and experience in distinct areas of practice that can be specialist in nature.
Responsibilities
* To cast, measure, fit and deliver a well-fitting orthosis, and maintain the fit and mechanical integrity of the orthosis while meeting the clinical needs of the patient.
* To work as part of the multidisciplinary team at each centre. To act in a professional manner at all times to other members of the team, the patients and their families.
* To participate in the areas covered by Clinical Governance, including clinical audit and evidence-based research.
* To interact with patients, assess their orthotic needs and using your clinical skills meet the needs of the patient, asking for advice and help from your colleagues as necessary.
* Carry a full patient caseload covering all areas of orthotics and complexity of treatment.
* Take accurate measures of any patient requiring an orthosis.
* Align the orthosis to allow optimum gait for the patient and deliver the orthosis within the agreed contract time at the orthotic service centre.
* Ensure that your technical knowledge is kept up to date by maintaining current awareness of the latest techniques and componentry.
* Work as part of the multidisciplinary team, respecting the role that each team member has to play and taking the lead role in prescribing.
* Identify areas of possible improvement in the service provision and highlight those to your orthotic manager.
* Undertake the supervision of P&O students and more junior members of staff.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
* Degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics
Experience Essential
* Excellent communication and MDT collaboration skills
* A passion for service innovation and delivering measurable outcomes
* HCPC-registered Orthotist with strong clinical reasoning and patient-centred care ethos
Desirable
* Experience in managing complex caseloads including paediatrics and diabetic foot preferable
