The Major Sporting Projects Delivery Directorate is a new directorate within DCMS’s Policy Group. It will oversee the Government’s input to some of the highest profile programmes in the world of sport. Amongst the projects and programmes covered by the team are:
* The UEFA European Championships 2028 - ensuring the Government delivers on its commitments to ensure that this major event is staged successfully, maximising economic growth and benefiting local communities. This programme is part of the Government Major Projects Portfolio.
* The future pipeline of major sporting events - driving forward the Government's work, with partners, to secure, and successfully host, the world’s biggest and best sporting events, including the women’s Rugby World Cup 2025.
* Grassroots facilities delivery - overseeing the delivery of hundreds of millions into multi-sport grassroots facilities across the UK, as part of the EURO 2028 impact programme and to tackle inactivity, support the Health mission and build cohesive communities through providing access to high quality shared sporting spaces.
The directorate is evolving out of a unit within the existing Sport and Gambling Directorate, with which it will need to continue working seamlessly.
The team prioritises a positive workplace culture, where colleagues are committed to excellence in delivery, ongoing personal development, a supportive working environment, and operating seamlessly with colleagues and stakeholders based across the UK, and beyond.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the Major Sporting Projects Delivery Directorate, in a varied role supporting the delivery of high profile programmes that are critical to our Ministers’ mission-led priorities. The post-holder will play a key role managing the corporate functions of the directorate - including coordinating recruitment campaigns, budget management and programme and stakeholder management. Key responsibilities include:
* Workforce planning: Ensure the directorate is resourced effectively, by working with HR and the team to manage recruitment campaigns and support onboarding.
* Coordinating Stakeholder Engagement - Coordinate elements of stakeholder engagement. This may include arranging and secretariating key meetings, and coordinating the preparation of background papers and briefing notes.
* Programme Management: Support key elements of programme delivery across the directorate’s range of programmes. This may include helping to ensure the directorate takes a robust approach to financial management, facilitating governance and assurance processes to ensure successful programme delivery, and working with programme teams to identify and manage key risks, issues and opportunities.
* Coordinating Commissions and Correspondence: Liaise with key colleagues across the directorate to ensure prompt and efficient responses to key correspondence and central commissions, including short notice requests.
* Oversight of directorate processes and corporate queries: Oversee Directorate-wide processes, including risk management, in year rewards and business continuity. Act as the first point of contact for corporate queries for all team members.
If other opportunities arise in this or a similar area, it may be possible for candidates from this process to be appointed to them.
