Title:
UAS Development, Test and Assurance Engineer
Do you want to help us create a safe and secure world through the delivery of transformational and trusted autonomous technologies?
We are looking for an Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Engineer with a background in UAS Prototyping, Flight Testing and Assurance to join our Assured Autonomous Systems team. We are developing novel autonomous systems for a better world. We combine cutting edge bespoke control systems and software with the latest in sensing and compute technologies aboard novel platform designs in the sub-25kg weight class.
Our team works closely with customers and users, ensuring we are solving real problems in a way that can be deployed in real situations. This means the systems we develop must be safe, reliable, and trustworthy. This is becoming ever more important as our prototypes become products. We are looking to grow our team with intelligent, talented, and motivated people to continue to deliver transformational technology.
This is an opportunity to contribute as part of a complex multidisciplinary team working to develop and deliver UAS products with tangible real-world applications. The work combines development through design and flight testing, demonstration, and maturation.
Typical work includes:
1. High-performance powertrain selection and integration into autonomous platforms to impact mission performance.
2. CAD, 3D printing and CNC machining to integrate new sensors.
3. Designing and conducting flight testing to support system verification and validation.
4. PX4/Ardupilot log review to quantify performance and capture evidence thereof.
5. Testing of bespoke autonomous functions, using PX4 and ROS2.
6. Building a small fleet of prototype platforms to test and demonstrate to key stakeholders.
7. Working with regulatory bodies to ensure safe and legal operation whilst supporting advancement of regulations.
8. Supporting continuous improvement of our ways of working to deliver more efficiently and safely.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work within a small, dedicated and highly enthusiastic team. Our work is exciting, challenging and continually evolving so we welcome people who enjoy working in a challenging and engaging environment.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience required:
1. A degree in Aerospace Systems, Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering field.
2. 3+ years of experience working in UAS development.
3. Good skillset in CAD (primarily SolidWorks) and rapid prototyping.
4. Good understanding of UAS grade avionics and subsystems.
5. UAS assembly skills, including soldering.
6. Experience with PX4/Ardupilot development and debugging tools.
7. Experience in formal flight testing procedures.
Following areas would help you stand out:
1. UAS pilot experience, GVC qualified.
2. Experience working with UAS regulatory bodies such as the CAA or MAA.
3. Experience tuning PX4 flight controllers.
4. Proficient in UAS with offboard/autonomous features.
5. Familiarity with UAS grade communication systems.
To succeed in this role, you should offer the following:
1. Excellent problem solving skills.
2. A willingness and an enthusiasm to learn new skills, and the autonomy to do without excessive supervision.
3. Experience of working as part of a team to deliver complex or multi-disciplinary projects, products, or systems.
4. Enthusiasm to take ownership of technical problems and contribute to our shared learning environment.
If you can offer anything else you think is relevant or would add to the role we'd love to hear about it, so please get in touch. #J-18808-Ljbffr
