Job Title
An Electrical Technician opportunity has arisen within our Engineering Department, based in Southampton. The role will involve a wide range of engineering project activities across multiple equipment types.
This is a day shift position, covering both weekdays and weekends.
About the Role
* Record position and stock number tested items in line with Docks Regulations and British Standards Statutory Regulations.
* Perform duties in a safe and environmentally friendly manner, reporting any deficiencies to management.
* Operate a variety of equipment, including Straddle Carriers, tug masters, IMV drawbar trailers, Forklift Trucks, M.E.W.P 's, Reach Stackers, Empty Handlers, Telescopic Handling Fork Trucks, tractors, and tow 5th wheel and drawbar trailers.
* Electrical - Be conversant with drive and control systems of DP World Southampton Straddle Carriers, Cranes, Diesel Electric, Diesel Hydraulic Drives of Terminal Equipment and Spreaders, and understand associated software packages. Be conversant with working with voltages from 6 v – 500 v Plus.
* Electrical - Work on terminal electrical systems, including High mast lighting, reefers, and cranes if required.
* Mechanical - Be conversant with all hydraulic systems based on Straddle Carriers, cranes, and spreaders.
* Undertake on-the-job training and residential courses as required under the supervision of the Engineering Project Manager.
* Complete mechanical / electrical projects as required under the supervision of the Engineering Project Manager.
* Comply with DP World Southampton company safety policy and wear provided P.P.E..
* Ensure a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to company health, safety, and environment policies, achieving full compliance with relevant legislation.
Requirements
* Successful completion of a recognised Engineering or Electrical Apprenticeship in an appropriate trade course, such as City & Guilds level 2, BTEC level 3.
* Experience in heavy industry engineering.
* Reasonable level of numeracy and literacy.
* Understanding and appreciation of equipment functionality and service requirements.
* Able to follow and understand electrical / hydraulic / mechanical drawings.
* Able to work effectively on own and as part of a team.
* IT literacy.
* Good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate at all levels of seniority.
* Ability to effectively plan and co-ordinate tasks.
Electrical Bias:
* Electrical experience, working with voltage between 12v – 6600v.
* Experience as an electrical technician or engineer.
* Sound knowledge in PLC control systems.
Mechanical Bias
* Sound mechanical working with pneumatics and hydraulics, diesel engines, and general heavy fitting.
* Welding and Fabrication experience.
