Job Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced, and dedicated MRI Radiographer to join our MRI team. Potential candidates should preferably have at least two years experience of working within the MRI modality and at least two years of post-qualification experience. This is not an MRI training post.
Duties will also include fluoroscopy procedures using our Image Intensifier for nerve root blocks, medial branch block injections, etc. on our pain management lists, and for arthrography procedures prior to MRI Arthrography examinations.
The post holder will work as part of a team consisting of radiographers, radiographic assistants, nursing staff, and health care assistants, who provide a 9.5 hour, 5-day service in the MRI Department. Weekend working will form part of your hours.
This post is 37.5 hours per week (with 30 mins unpaid break). Additional non-substantive hours may be available.
The successful candidate will develop specialised knowledge and expertise to produce high-quality images for diagnosis and treatment, whilst maintaining high standards of care.

Main Duties of the Job
1. Competently undertake a range of diagnostic examinations using MRI and mobile fluoroscopy to produce high quality images.
2. Assess patient referrals to determine appropriate radiographic techniques and protocols for imaging.
3. Take responsibility for radiation safety in your work area including checking equipment for malfunctions/errors, managing referrals to ensure patients receive a radiation dose as low as reasonably possible and safely supervising visiting staff and patients in radiation work areas.
4. Take responsibility for MRI safety in your work area including checking patient safety questionnaires, checking equipment for malfunctions/errors and safely supervising visiting staff and patients in the MRI controlled area.
5. Provide support and reassurance to patients, taking into account their physical and psychological needs, especially those of the claustrophobic patient.
6. Communicate effectively with patients, clinicians and colleagues.
7. Administer MRI contrast injections when required.
8. Deal with post-processing for each patient and pay close attention to detail, such as annotating images correctly, to prevent errors and complete documentation quickly and accurately.
9. Support radiographic assistants, students & other staff, and deliver appropriate supervision and training.
10. Understand & observe the Clinic policies and procedures.
11. Keep the clinical areas clean & well stocked.
12. Report issues & incidents to your line manager.

Job Responsibilities
1. Act as an Operator under IR(ME)R 2017 regulations, assess clinical justification of referrals to ensure that the benefit to the patient outweighs the radiation risk associated with the examination.
2. Act as a patient and staff advocate by minimizing their exposure to radiation.
3. Provide efficient and courteous provision of radiographic services to the departments agreed standards whilst taking into account the patients clinical, physical and cultural needs.
4. Participate in the departmental Rota, being flexible in responding to service needs.
5. Assess clinical workload, communicate work priorities and organize work load in conjunction with other team members.
6. Work effectively as part of a team with respective work area.
7. Responsible for the safe use and maintenance of imaging equipment, reporting faults to senior staff and directly to the manufacturer/service provider when necessary.
8. Welcome patients, visitors and staff to the department and deal with enquiries in a kind and courteous manner.
9. Communicate with referrers any referral queries after assessing clinical justification for an x-ray examination against (IR(ME)r and local protocols, prior to undertaking the examination.
10. Communicate information relating to procedures to patients and ensure informed consent for examinations is obtained.
11. Give factual information to patients, regarding examinations and the necessary preparations.
12. Ensure patients receive timely and accurate information about their examination, and ensure urgent findings are communicated in the appropriate way to referrers and radiologists.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
* DCR R or BSc(Hons Radiography)
* State registration with HCPC
* Evidence of further study. Clinical competence.
* Postgraduate qualification in MRI -Cross-sectional imaging
Desirable
* IV Cannulation skills.
* Teaching skills.
