Priest in Charge of the parishes of Stone Cross with North Langney and Pevensey
The Bishop of Chichester is seeking an inspirational, pastoral and community-minded priest in charge for these two neighbouring parishes at the eastern end of Eastbourne.
Stone Cross (pop. 12,000) is a primarily residential urban area, currently undergoing rapid expansion, in an attractive location with pockets of deprivation. The multi-generational congregation of St Luke’s Church, which celebrates its centenary in 2025, worships in a modern building, fully integrated with its well-appointed parish centre, in constant use by the local community.
Pevensey (pop. 3,200), the site of William the Conqueror’s landing in 1066, comprises the ancient parish church of St Nicolas, situated in the historic village, and the modern St Wilfrid’s church, also with a community hall, which serves Pevensey Bay: an extended coastal strip with an expanding population and many visitors.
Both parishes have a sacramental tradition, with worship centred on the Sunday Eucharist. With a licensed assistant priest in Pevensey and a number of associated clergy with PTO, as well as an enthusiastic lay team, there will be strong support for the new priest in charge.
The Vicarage, situated in Stone Cross, is a modern house within easy reach of schools and shops, and with excellent transport links to London and other destinations.
The Diocese of Chichester is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All post holders and volunteers are expected to share this commitment. Our full safeguarding policy can be found on our website.
All appointments are subject to acceptable pre-appointment checks, including a satisfactory Enhanced DBS Check.
