About the Role
NPL is seeking to appoint an experienced research scientist for an exciting role based in Teddington, South West London, to join the Chemical and Biological Sciences Department. This permanent role will involve developing Raman and other optical spectroscopies for life science and health applications.
The successful candidate will work as part of a research team on a variety of state-of-the-art measurement systems, solve challenging technical problems, deliver collaborative R&D for industrial customers, present research in peer-reviewed journals and at conferences, develop international standards and will engage with external organisations to maximise scientific progress.
About You
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Chemical & Biological Sciences Department to work on Raman spectroscopy and nonlinear optical imaging, including stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscopy for measurements across the life sciences spectrum.
To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills, experience, and qualifications:
1. A degree in physical sciences or engineering (ideally including a PhD).
2. Hands on experience in nonlinear optics and microscopy, in particular coherent Raman scattering methods.
3. Knowledge and working experience of advanced data analysis and tools such as MATLAB and/or Python.
4. Collaborative and proactive team player, who can also work independently.
5. Excellent communication skills and publication record.
6. Familiarity with handling biological samples would be an advantage.
