Job Summary
An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic HCPC registered Nuclear Medicine Clinical Scientist and Medical Physics Expert to apply for a Band 8B Principal Clinical Scientist post based at Singleton Hospital, Swansea. Applicants who do not meet the requirements of the 8B post may be considered for appointment at Band 8A. The Band 8A job description is also attached.
The Department of Nuclear Medicine at Singleton Hospital is part of the Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering service and has close academic links with the neighbouring Swansea University. It is a busy seafront department which offers a range of diagnostic investigations and radionuclide therapies. On site, we have two SPECT-CT scanning rooms, a regional Radiopharmacy, Molecular Radiotherapy, PET-CT and bone densitometry services. This is a senior post within the Scientific and Technical team which supports the provision of Nuclear Medicine services across South-West Wales.
Main duties of the job
We are looking to recruit a Principal Clinical Scientist and Medical Physics Expert in Nuclear Medicine. The post-holder will provide scientific support across all Nuclear Medicine services and will take responsibility as the Radiation Governance Lead within Nuclear Medicine. They will take an active role in quality improvement in Nuclear Medicine, will supervise Clinical Scientists in training and will act as Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Swansea University. This is an exciting opportunity to take part and lead change in a fast-changing setting, including establishing a new-build PET-CT service, developing the application of a state-of-the-art GE Starguide SPECT-CT system and expansion of radionuclide therapy services. The successful candidate will be required to develop and optimise Nuclear Medicine services in the region.
The Department of Nuclear Medicine at Singleton Hospital is a friendly and progressive service. The Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Department is accredited by IPEM for training and has links to Swansea University through research and formal academic teaching. Person Specification
Essential Qualifications and Knowledge
* MSc in Medical Physics
* Professional registration with the HCPC as a Clinical Scientist.
* Medical Physics Expert on register held by RPA2000.
* Radioactive Waste Adviser on register held by RPA2000.
* Extensive experience in Nuclear Medicine and expert knowledge of Nuclear Medicine legislation.
Desirable
* Health Research Authority (HRA) Radiation Assurance approved MPE reviewer.
* Radiation Protection Adviser on register held by RPA2000.
* Chartered Scientist (CSci) status.
* PhD in Medical Physics.
Essential Experience
* Nuclear Medicine equipment specification and procurement.
* Quality and Document System management.
* Preparation and response to formal regulatory audits (e.g. HIW, ONR, HSE, NRW).
* Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in Nuclear Medicine.
* Liaising with ARSAC for licence management for both Employer and Practitioner.
* MPE Review of Clinical Trials involving Exposure to Ionising Radiation.
* Presentation of work at National / International Professional Meetings.
* Management of incidents including route cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
