About this role
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced fire safety professional to join the University’s Health and Safety Team. We are a small team of health, safety and fire professionals who provide a crucial service to the University in shaping and driving its health and safety culture and ensuring that it remains a sustained strategic priority.
The Fire Safety Adviser is a vital, high-profile role, you will take the lead on fire safety, using your specialist fire safety knowledge to:
Act as the University's appointed competent fire safety person
Develop and implement the University’s Fire Safety Management System
Implement and manage the Fire Risk Assessment programme
Support and advise upon fire safety in new building projects, refurbishments etc.
Conduct fire safety audits to monitor practice and performance
Develop, implement and deliver fire safety training
Be the main contact for all fire safety matters.
As a member of the Health and Safety Team you will work collaboratively and in partnership across all the University’s academic College’s and Professional Services, though with particular focus on the University’s Estates Team.
About you
This is an exciting opportunity to build, develop and continually improve fire safety management at UWE Bristol. It will suit a well-rounded, highly motivated fire safety professional who is able to engage and influence at all levels and has a pragmatic customer-focused approach to fire safety.
You will have substantial experience and a comprehensive practical knowledge of fire safety in the UK, having worked within large, complex organisations with a broad range of fire safety risks. Ideally, you will have an IQ Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety or other equivalent level 4 fire safety qualification. You will meet the competency criteria for fire risk assessors and be at least a graduate member of the IFE or other relevant professional body. Candidates who may be working towards their qualifications, registrations and memberships are encouraged to apply especially where all other essential criteria are met.
Your experience should include developing, implementing, and managing risk assessment programmes, supporting, and advising upon fire safety in new building projects, alterations implementing and delivering fire safety training and conducting fire safety audits.
Excellent IT skills with experience across MS Office is essential especially word and excel. The role will require extensive utilisation of these packages for analysing data, monitoring and management of fire risk assessment actions and producing reports to all levels at the University.

Interviews are provisionally scheduled to take place at our Frenchay during the week commencing 10th March 2025.
This is a full-time, permanent post, working 37 hours per week.
