Gearbox Fitter – About the Role:
The Mechanical / Gearbox Fitter will provide support to the gearbox repair department by dismantling and assembling all types of industrial gearboxes and general mechanical equipment, while providing a detailed inspection report highlighting operational issues with the machine being assessed.
Main Duties:
1. Involvement in day-to-day workshop activities in relation to quality, health & safety, and environmental activities.
2. Dismantling of all types of gearboxes and mechanical equipment, producing concise and accurate reports for management.
3. Assembling gearboxes and mechanical equipment accurately so they are ready for installation.
4. Interpreting engineering data and documentation such as engineering drawings and technical data.
5. Working under minimum supervision, taking responsibility for the quality and accuracy of the work undertaken.
6. Being proactive in finding solutions to problems and identifying areas for improving the business.
7. Ensuring standard work practices and procedures are being followed.
8. Site attendance and site assessment where required.
9. Responding to emergency situations.
10. Participating in a call-out rota.

Where a reasonable amendment to the main responsibilities of the role is necessary, you will be expected to undertake these additional duties as required for the successful completion of the job.
What We Need From You:
1. Apprenticeship in an associated field or adequate experience.
2. Health & safety, environmental, or quality training would be an advantage but not essential.
3. Experienced mechanical fitter with knowledge of industrial gearboxes, pumps, and electric motors assembly and refurbishment.
4. Experience in the fitting of bearings and other precision components.
5. Capable of using precision workshop measuring equipment (i.e., micrometers and verniers).
6. Ensuring excellent quality standards through final inspection and pass-off process.
7. Ability to work to instruction and on own initiative.
8. Selecting and using a range of measuring and testing equipment to check components are to the required quality and accuracy.
9. Reading and interpreting engineering data.
10. Demonstrating problem-solving skills to solve and repair issues efficiently and effectively.
11. Trained and experienced in the use of overhead cranes and slinging.
12. Forklift license and experience is an advantage.
13. Ability to work as part of a team.
14. Problem-solving skills.
15. Full UK driving license.
