Hadlow Primary School is looking for a motivated, efficient, flexible, reliable, and caring person to join our friendly, happy, and high-performing team. We are looking for someone who will enjoy working within a vibrant school environment and who will be committed to maintaining and improving our lovely school site. The ideal person will be warm, cheerful, and willing to help in any way they can support the children and staff at our school.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the safety and security of our whole school site and will ensure that it is well loved and cared for, maintaining a safe, clean, and appealing inside and outside space.
The Role will include:
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Ensuring that the school is functional on a daily basis and responding to any day-to-day issues that may arise (e.g., toilets, boilers, water, etc.)
2. Carrying out health and safety checks, e.g., legionella, fire alarms, etc.
3. Overseeing external contractors and ensuring safe practices, e.g., reading and signing the asbestos register
4. General maintenance, e.g., painting and decorating, fixing, repairs, and woodworking, etc.
5. Daily site walks and risk assessments of the school
6. Project managing small projects in school, such as remodelling rooms
7. Overseeing the quality of cleaning in the school
8. Keeping the school safe during all weathers, e.g., sweeping, de-icing
Desirable Skills:
1. Driving children on the community minibuses to external events
2. Working with small groups of children, e.g., woodworking skills, gardening (paid extra)
Ideally, we are looking for someone who has previous experience working in a school setting; however, our main aim is to find somebody who is passionate about their role and willing to develop and learn new skills.
Initially, we are looking for someone who will work for 21 hours a week (7:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) for 52 weeks a year. These times are inclusive of a 30-minute lunch break, which can be extended. There is also the possibility of additional hours through a casual contract, which can be discussed at the interview stage. This will be for the completion of larger scale school projects. The caretaker will also be responsible for any security call-outs on the school site. This post will be paid at Kent Range 4 (pro rata for 15 hours a week).
