We are seeking a highly motivated and professional individual to work 37.5 hours over 5 days, Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per day, to assist a multi-skilled team of tradesmen to undertake planned and reactive maintenance as well as alterations and improvement works within properties on the Livewell Southwest estate.
As the successful applicant, you will be primarily responsible for ensuring that the grounds of our estate, spread across Plymouth and South West Devon, are kept in good condition and present the estate in a positive way. This will involve maintaining lawns, shrubs, hedges, borders, etc., as well as undertaking maintenance tasks such as gutter and gulley clearing and ensuring grounds, roadways, and paths are safe at all times of the year. You will have the opportunity to develop the grounds in a positive way and improve their overall appeal to the benefit of patients, staff, and visitors. The role will involve the use of a variety of grounds maintenance equipment such as mowers, chainsaws, blowers, strimmers, pesticide applicators, etc.
You will also be required to work on your own after having gained experience of the sites.
Good communication skills and a willingness to undertake training are required. You must be numerate and literate, with good written skills.
You must be able to work overtime at short notice, if required, and have the ability to travel across Plymouth.
Main duties of the job
To maintain the grounds and gardens of Livewell Southwest's managed properties to the required standards. To maintain and repair landscaping features. To ensure that the fabric of Livewell Southwest's grounds and gardens provides a pleasant and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff ensuring that health and safety requirements and regulations are adhered to at all times.
To serve as part of the maintenance team to deliver high quality care through effective and efficient operation and maintenance of all healthcare building services.
To comply with all relevant Health, Safety, and Statutory legislation and seek to apply best working practice at all times.

The post holder will need to travel and attend various sites based across Plymouth and other geographical areas. A full and valid driving licence and access to a car for work purposes is required. Reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act will be taken into account for the successful applicant.

Job responsibilities
Undertake tasks appropriate to the Groundsperson role as delegated by line management or helpdesk.
The post holder will be expected to ensure that the fabric of Livewell Southwest's grounds and gardens provides a pleasant and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff ensuring that health and safety requirements and regulations are adhered to at all times including but not limited to:
* Operate a wide variety of equipment and machinery
* Grass cutting
* Pruning and maintenance of shrubs, trees, and hedges
* General cleaning including leaf cleaning, litter collection, clearing of gutters and gullies
* Construct, maintain, and repair paving, patios, fencing, and other landscaping structures
* Safe disposal of drug paraphernalia and safe collection and disposal of deceased wildlife and all faeces
* Maintenance of horticultural tools and equipment
* Use of pesticides, fertilisers, and other soil conditioners
* Road and path salting
* Assist other trades where appropriate
Advise the Line Manager of any problems or hazards likely to be encountered including existing installations that appear substandard or fail to meet current regulations as it becomes apparent. Isolate or make safe any installation that presents a danger to staff, visitors, or patients to ensure the highest levels of safety at all times.
Undertake appropriate fault finding, investigation, and testing of grounds maintenance plant and equipment.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Level 2 Certificate in Work-based Horticulture (QCF) or the ability, knowledge, and experience to work to this level
* Basic computer skills relevant to the job role
* GCSE in maths and English at grade C (grade 4) or above (or equivalent)
* Health & Safety qualification
* Trained First Aider at Work
* 5 GCSEs at grade C (grade 4) or above (or equivalent)
Specific Skills

* 2 years experience in the role within a healthcare environment
* Ability to carry out all aspects of the role without additional supervision
Knowledge
