Introduction to role
The Associate Director Quality Projects for the 1Lab Phase II Project is a 2-year role responsible for leading the rollout of the 1Lab system across AstraZeneca's QC testing sites globally. This role combines project management expertise with a deep understanding of the 1Lab system's capabilities and application. You will collaborate on project activities, communicate with collaborators, and improve laboratory efficiency and data integrity during the transition to 1Lab. Additionally, you'll work closely with the 1Lab Phase II Project SME, the Business as Usual (BAU) 1Lab team, and local site project teams to ensure alignment, continuity, and effective implementation of the system rollout. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting the team by driving productivity through lean methodologies and providing technical expertise.
Accountabilities
Coordinate SteerCo and Governance Meetings:
* Coordinate and facilitate Steering Committee (SteerCo) and Governance meetings to discuss project progress, challenges, and strategic decisions.
* Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, and action items, ensuring that all collaborators are informed and engaged.
* Act as a liaison between the project team and the SteerCo, providing updates and seeking guidance as needed.
Project Planning:
* Build and maintain detailed project plans, outlining timelines, achievements, and deliverables.
* Allocate resources effectively and adjust plans as necessary to accommodate changes in project scope or priorities.
* Collaborate with team members to ensure all project activities are aligned and progressing according to schedule.
Communications:
* Implement a strong communication strategy to keep all collaborators informed of project status, updates, and any changes.
* Facilitate regular communication between global and local project teams to ensure alignment and address any issues promptly.
* Develop and share project reports, presentations, and other materials with collaborators at all levels.
Financial Tracking:
* Monitor project budgets, expenses, and forecasts to ensure financial objectives are met.
* Identify and manage financial risks and variances, implementing corrective actions as needed.
* Update project benefits delivery in Global Productivity App.
* Prepare financial reports and updates for the SteerCo and other key collaborators.
Ensure Compliance with AstraZeneca's Quality Standards and Business Requirements:
* Ensure that all project activities adhere to AstraZeneca's quality and compliance standards.
* Work closely with the 1Lab BAU team to integrate quality checks into project processes.
* Ensure that the proposed solutions meet the business needs and regulatory requirements, conducting regular reviews and assessments.
Stakeholder Engagement & Support:
* Provide support to sites globally, conducting regular meetings to understand customer needs and offer training and post-go-live support.
* Support Go-live review and communication.
* Engage in flexible working to accommodate different time zones as the need arises.
System and Process Improvement:
* Ensure global procedures for 1Lab are updated or created as necessary.
* Develop and review user acceptance testing scripts for data validation.
* Collaborate with external contractors, managing task prioritisation and workload.
* Support Global 1Lab activities, including Super User Forums and Governance Groups.
* Promote harmonisation of processes across multiple sites and apply standard methodologies across the network.
* Conduct lessons learned sessions to continuously improve project delivery.
The ideal candidate will be qualified to graduate level or equivalent in a scientific subject area, with significant experience in a Good Manufacturing Practice laboratory environment. You should possess strong knowledge and understanding of analytical chemistry, microbiology, laboratory instrumentation, and Good Manufacturing Practice/Good Laboratory Practice. Experience with various lab systems such as Smart Lab, LIMs, Empower, and MODA operating systems is highly advantageous.

* Experience of working in a regulated environment
* Experience of virtual teamwork to lead, shape and develop innovative solutions
* Experience of working with and leading third party suppliers/vendors
Desirable Skills/Experience
* Experience working in a PCO/PET organisation or Lean/Six Sigma training
* Multi-site / multi-functional experience
* Good level of Lean operational experience
* Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field, or formal certification in Project Management practice (PMP/ PRINCE/Scrum)
* Practical usage of Agile Methodology
* Experience of working in a global organization with sophisticated/geographical context
* Pharmaceutical business awareness/business domain knowledge
* Cross industry business awareness/business domain knowledge
